Recommend a cab simulator/direct box?

microcab only sounds good with all the buttons out - meaning not selecting anything, and just using hi balance and thump knobs - which then it sounds pretty good, but it's a 1 trick pony - does what i want tho.

A friend of mine used a groove tubes emulator like this one and he swears by it.

That's a speaker emulator/power soak type deal though. There's a slight difference between something that turns speaker out into line out, and what I'm looking for.

With that device you run speaker in/through and get a slave to run to another amp. I already have a slave out on my amp (including the power amp section, it's not a preamp out or effects send).

What I need is something that takes line input and smooths it out so it sounds like a mic'd speaker. I intend to have the amp running and outputting sound from the speaker, just not mic'd. The H&K box is basically perfect for this (which is why I bought it) but it's ancient and not rack mount.
