  • Mark V, AxeFx, F50, GSP1101 - Rig from Hell

Having tried the Mark V - I now want one. Same goes for the AxeFx (took spending a few hours and really digging into it to realize the potential).

    I also intend to keep my F50 & 1101.

My intended setup is to use the Mark V as my main amp with the AxeFx Ultra via 4CM. I want to use the F50 for amplifying loops and will have the 1101 setup with the F50 so I can add effects to the loops as they repeat. Other than having two big assed foot controllers to deal with (plus a few distortion boxes I'm not ready to give up), I believe the plan is sound.

Has anyone heard of any bugs with the early production Mark V's? Buying the early production of anything is something I try to avoid, but I haven't heard of any system wide problems with the V's.

Me, I'd keep it simple and just go with the Axe-FX. I've had tube rigs for years and since I bought the Axe-FX, I sold all my other gear - all of it - and I couldn't be happier.

I don't get the impression that you've actually played through the Axe-FX. Am I correct?

I would run the 1101 with the Mark 5, Sell the F50 and pick up a VHT 2:90:2 and run the Axe straight into the 2:90:2 or just go direct into the return of the F50 effects loop (if it has it). Faces shall melt and you will have two rigs. I just dont understand why you would want to run the axe in a 4CM. But, I gotta agree with Matt_B, I have had tube rigs for years (splawn, bogner, mesa) I sold all that quality equipment and never looked back. Now, I am down to a bogner cab, AXE-FX, VHT and that is it.

That certainly sounds like a rig from hell. It would certainly be hell if something happened to it during a gig because with a complicated set up like that it would be a nightmare to figure out whats wrong with it.

I'd use the AxeFX in the loop of the Mark V as effects only just to keep it real, know what I'm sayin?

Eh, that's a bit of waste because just running it through the loop means you can't put any effect pre-distortion/before the amp like:
            - Wah
            - Distortion/Overdrive
            - Compression
            - EQ

That's why using the 4CM is handy in this situation.

I've spent managed to spend some quality time with a friend's ultra. I really just want to use the pre and post effects in the AxeFx. The amp sims definately sound incredible through a FRFR setup, but I can't stand the feel of playing through a full range monitor. Plus, the Mark V really offers everything I want in terms of basic guitar tones. To me, the AxeFx sounds as good as any of the Eventide and high end Lexicon units out there. I'm just not hearing/feeling what everyone is raving about in the amp sims. Still, the price for the unit, even if didn't have the amp sims, is more than fair.

I also want to isolate my loops to another amp. Having tried this, the improvement in sound is very noticable. I guess the typical guitar amp speaker, by nature of its design, is going to muddy up when too much is going through it.
