I say reluctantly, because I am trying to simplify my setup, and I really don't need or want many effects, but it looks like a heckuva deal for about $200 used (there's one on ebay right now for $199). I guess if I had one, I would use the noise gate, pitch detune (for a very understated chorus/thickening effect), reverb, and delay for solos if I could figure out a way to switch it on/off with my Tech 21 MIDI mouse. And for a tuner, assuming it has one built in.
I run a GMajor in the loop of my Quickrod to add some reverb, and a little delay. Works great!

Congrats on the Splawn purchase and from what i've read/heard the Splawn cabs are the way to go. Although my QR sounds mighty good with a Marshall JCM 900 cab with G12s.

Grats on the splawn. One thing that is nice about having the g-major in the loop is that you can calm that motherfucker down a bit. the difference between 0 and .5 on a splawn it is nothing to ear-bleeding. Having the g-major in the loop, you can use the effects loop as your volume break and take the edge off the master volume.

Nate, funny you said that. The G-Major takes that edge off on my Soldano SLO-100 when it's in the effects loop.

Well, I finally got to turn my Splawn up at band practice last night, and it really kicks ass. I brought my G-Flex 2x12, because I don't think the 4x12 would fit in my car's back seat. That G-Flex really kicks out the bass. I had my MXR Carbon Copy delay in the loop, but, I barely used that at all. I played with no effects whatsoever, and it really didn't need any. I bought an Omnisonic volume control, which I put in the loop, and that really saved everyone's ears. My bass player just got a Hartke head and 2 cabs (GK 4x10 and Peavey 1x12 Black Widow), and I when I turned the Splawn up, just to check out its volume, his bass disappeared. This thing is loud. Damn heavy, too. I think the head weighs more than the cab.

Overall, I am very, very pleased with my Splawn. So much so, that I am now planning to follow the seller's advice and get some high end cables and a Suhr. I always thought high end cables were hype, but he told me quite emphatically that he had tried them with this amp, and they make a huge difference.

As for the Suhr, I showed him some of my better USA Jacksons and Charvels, just shooting the breeze, and he said that while he is also a Charvel collector, a Suhr or Tom Anderson would blow away my Charvels and Jacksons - we shall see.

Bottom line: if you're looking for a great hot-rodded Marshall-style amp, a la EVH, get a Splawn. You will not be sorry.

Cool beans. With any amp the real test is loud stage volume with the full band

Cables do make a difference and I thought was BS for years too until I swapped to George L's for efffects/instrument and short Monster cables from head to cabs.

The Charvel vs. Suhr or Tom Anderson comparison isnt a fair one imho. There is also a good price differential as well. GMW would be the good bet for custom order as it would be a better bang for the buck. If you can get past the headstocks of Suhr/TA/GMW you'll be alright. To me the strat headstock is perfection , you could always look for an used GMW with the right headstock like this one

That is a sweet GMW, Shawn. I would love to get a GMW someday, but I already have the gears in motion right now to get a Suhr from our very own Matt. I love my Charvels and Jacksons, but I am anxious to see how this Suhr stacks up.

Suhr and Anderson have nice quality but even and even though they are generally higher priced than Jackson/Charvel I'll still take Jackson/Charvel over them. They feel generally better to me and a fried and I have played a couple Suhr and Andersons that weren't exactly the greatest sounding tonewise. So even in the high end world of guitars there are some that sound better than others. I'll stick to J/C
