i use a wet/dry set up in stereo. that is the only way i really hear my effects adequately live. the effects are 85% wet through 1 cab, and 100% dry through the other cab. my main "sound" has delay and chorus set up like i just described. my "special effects" patches are ratio'd according to what the effects are trying to accomplish.

but when i used to run mono with a bit of delay mixed in the loop it may as well not have been there at all.
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Being in a cover band that does a lot of 80's dance stuff, most of our songs has some keyboard stuff in by the original artist. Since we don't have a full time keyboard player, I'll do a lot of the keyboard stuff on my guitar and because of that, I have tons of patches for those songs because I try to match the original keyboard sound, and if I can't, I'll be creative and come up with some unique sound.

I run my 5150 dry most of the time. Guitar-wireless-tuner-vol.-wah-overdrive (only for some solos)-chorus (clean parts only)-phaser (one song only, Bark At The Moon)-delay (one song only, Heaven and Hell for part of the solo)-ISP Decimator-amp. I use a BBE in the FX loop for both channels. I get a really big, fat sound, plenty of everything and not too much of anything, lol. About 95% of my rhythms are dry as are most of my solos. No reverb, although I wouldn't mind having it sometimes.

I use effects pretty sparingly. My typical "just practicing" sound is completely dry.

I will use a little chorus/delay/reverb on solos and clean, and I use a Morley WAH-SP, but I don't use it in typical wah-wah fashion.

At home I plug the guitar straight to the amp and use that sweet spring reverb. I sometimes mess around with totally dry sound but to my ears the leads just don't sound good without any ambience.
And I really like delay, it can give a whole new dimension to things.

Do both... It depends if the head I am using has a reverb tank... I really do love a bit of amplifier spring reverb though and for me it blows away any effect unit / pedal reverb ... but that is another thread I guess.

I find that delay works really well on recordings, but can really turn things to mush when used live. Same with reverb. You're going to have a lot of room 'verb anyway from the place you're playing.

On the clean channel a use a decent amount of the spring reverb. Not dripping wet, but I have the control set at about 10:30. On the distortion channel I have it turned on just a hair. About 8:30 when the pot starts at around 7. I use the EH memory boy for a bit of delay set at a very low mix level. (20% or so.) I will turn up the mix and try out some of the crazier settings when playing with sounds.
