  • Pedalboard upgrade you wanna see!

After spending countless hrs posting, reading and finally buying stuff off thegearpage forums, I decided I was not happy with the tones and my pedaboard needed a serious upgrade. I upgraded my pedaboard from this

    to THIS!!

Early 90's Mark IV Type A. (Notice it says Mesa/Boogie instead of the newer ones that just say Boogie ). I'm running my Jackson's through the lead channel (but of course!) and it LOUD, crystal clear and I've never been happier. The clean channel on this beast is just so good, it makes me wanna play the clean channel.

Since my jackson's have all passive pups, at times, I feel a nice OD pedal might bring out the IV's character out better. I dont own one. If you're using either a Jackson DK2M/DK2T/SL2HT with passive pups and a Mark IV, which OD pedal do you feel suits the amp the best without coloring the amp's tone? I have the Maxon OD pedal high on the list and LOG tone to conquer.

    thanks
    Sam

Hey Jeremy! Yes, I did. Do you know him? I was contemplating between your Bogner Uberschall and this one. However, I've been wanting to buy this amp ever since I joined this board and his price seemed just right.

No need for a d box with a mark series amp IMO. and if you think the Mark IV has great cleans, try the Mark V.

                  HAHAHA!!

Yeah Jason is a buddy of mine in the local metal band A Thousand Kingdoms. Check them out on myspace or youtube playing at the Voodoo Lounge here in San Jose. He just picked it up a week ago in SF and was soo thrilled with all of the switches and buttons for never ending tonal possibilities and then decided it was too much for him...haha

                  Killer amp for sure!!

tube screamer, boss sd-1 or od-3, or blues driver. whatever floats your boat really. they all do the same thing when set to clean boost, just different characteristics.

thanks. for the moment, I have a Boss eq pedal with mids-boosted in a bell-curve pattern and it seems to be doing the job. I'm getting great sustain, nice fat tone with a slight sizzle and close to the L.O.G tone through a closed back 1x12 with a Celestion V30.

Thats exactly what I'd recommend. Instead of a distortion pedal used as a clean boost, I like to use an eq up front of my Boogie to be able to push the amp harder on select frequencies.

As it is, with the mid-boost, I was getting great sustain and smooth distortion at low levels. Today, after reading a boogie board member's post, I set up the MXR 10-band eq in the loop and with just a little tweaking, I'm getting awesome tones. And for the first time, I experienced what a "smooth buttery distortion" is. The options on this amp are endless.

BTW, where in the bayarea are you?
