Clayton usa .50, .80 and 1.00 acetal polymer regular sized. They last long and they are white (easy to find and reclaim from sticky fingered lead guitarist. I do tend to doctor them at times if I'm playing in a muggy outdoor gig.
Just switched about 2 months ago to Ultex Jazz III and haven't looked back. They take a little getting used to, but my speed has gone up measurably and I feel like they make me more precise.
Hey Vass, is this the pic you are talking about:
I've been using mostly Tortex 1mm but I often switch to .77mm or 1.14mm
That's it! I ordered 5 or 6 packs of em from Musician's Friend- I'll probably lose them before I wear them all out & won't need any more for a long time
I used Orange Tortex for years (I don't remember the gauge) but as my playing style changed, they just weren't stiff enough so I switched to the yellow Tortex .73mm. A friend of mine recently gave me a box full of Snarling Dog .73mm and I like them because they have kind of a sandpaper feel and don't spin around in my hand, but they are a bit flexible.. I dunno, I may give those celuloid picks a shot, maybe with them I won't have to use the gorilla snot to keep them from spinning.
how does this gorilla snot stuff work?
does it stay on the plec or are your hands all sticks after playing?
how often do you need to apply it?
this stuff sounds kinda interessting...

It's not too bad as long as you don't use too much. I just get a little on my thumb and it usually lasts for a full set.. If you use too much it gets a little messy, but usually it just creates kind of a "tacky" feel between your fingers.. If you've ever been bowling, it's the same rosin bowlers use to help them hang onto the ball. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...RWXGB&ZYXSEM=0
I'd rather not use it if I don't have to, that's why I'm going to give the celuloids picks a shot. Going down to Sam Ash this afternoon and pick some up to try out at my gig tommorow night.
mmhh... maybe I can pick some up locally, sounds like it could be worth a try.
usually I don't have problems with slippery plecs at all, but there are these days, you know...
I just hope it doesn't taste too bad, I doubt I will be able to get rid of the nasty habbit to place the plec in my mouth during fingerpicking moments...
but my drummer could use this for sure. he keeps on throwing away his sticks every once in a while.
you gotta be sure of yourself, I'd be afraid to try out new equipment in a live situation. have a fun gig anyway!

Should be able to pick it up at just about any music store.. I get mine locally @ Sam ash or Guitar Center, whichever one I'm in at the time.
I can't speak on the taste, I don't do alot of finger picking, but when I do, I have a tray on my mic stand that I toss my plec onto and a picstrip that I can always grab a new one from. I'll try the cel picks during souncheck or something before the gig, and if they don't do it for me, I'll have the ones I'm use to to fall back on.. No biggie.
I've been using Dunlop Jazz III's for two or three years now, but I recently began using Dava Jazz Grips, and I love 'em. The only downside is that they wear out a lot faster than regular Jazz III's.
