  • Need a decent combo - any suggestions?

I got a few gigs that will require after work rehearsals in an unfurnished studio. I realize that all I have are heads and cabs, which I don't want to bring. The gig itself will have a backline, so I just need a decent combo for the rehearsals. I'm thinking light but loud enough.

I will probably use a GT-6 for all FX/Distortion. It can be SS or tube, but needs a good clean tone as I will be building on that. A single 12 should also suffice.

Let the floodgates open... oh yeah, since this is for practices only, I prefer not to spend a lot of $$$. Between $300 - $500 maybe.

    Thanx

Hey man, this is all you need right here. Cleans are great. Loud as fuck and cheap enough to not worry too much about banging it around. Had one back in the day. regret getting rid of it ever since.

I live on the edge of danger facing life and death every single day.....then I leave her at home and go disarm bombs.

Mesa/Boogie DC5 combo. WAY underrated Mesa amps imho. 50w all tube. Nice cleans too. What type of music do you play?

I found this one years ago on eBay in $500 range. Best bang of the buck for an all tube amp, sounds great with a 4x12 too

If you are lucky, you might be able to find a Laney AOR 30 or 50 combo. 1x12" sealed back makes for a better tone IMO.

The tone is similar to hot rodded Marshalls of the 80s.

I picked up an AOR 50 Combo for $230 6 years ago.

Oh, and unfortunately it's not the lightest combo being sealed back and real solid.

How about the Mesa F30? The F-Series is probably one of my favorite Mesas.

I like the DC5 but beware it is a very dark sounding amp.

Out of the following, what would be the most bang for the buck:

                  Spider 3 75 combo - $160
                  Spider 4 75 combo - $299
                  Peavey Ultra 60 combo - $299

Still looking, but here's what's around so far...

The speakers in the Spider III sound like crap IMO. As far as a clean amp, it's fine. I assume the Spider IV is the same. Haven't heard an Ultra 60.

+2. Pete I had one for a long time and it was really a great gigging amp. I would also suggest the Vetta combo too but you know all about that amp so... The flaextone IIIXL is what I had actually and I really loved the tones from it. Not to complicated like the Vetta can be. With a Floorboard it was very easy to use. Dialing in tones were really simple.

Peavey Bandit 112 - very nice clean channel, FX loop, pretty loud and cheap.

I always bring up the peavey vypyr tube.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

Peavey Valvekings aren't that bad either. The price is right on them.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.
