  • Cool tones cheap!

Was out checking out pawn shops today, and I spotted a set of noname computer speakers with a subwoofer marked @29.99. I asked the sales guy if they worked and if the sticker price was the correct one. He plugged them in and they powered up then said I'll give them to you for 12 dollars.

Even I can afford 12 lousy bux .

Get them home. Already have the appropriate 1/4 to 1/8 jack needed to use the RP50 the I own. Hook everything together, plug the Charvel in and strum. Holy crap!!! Sounded fuckin AWESOME!!!

This is by far the best bedroom amp the I've ever come up with. Not super loud, but can get more than loud enough for the bedroom. Hell, I bet if it were miked up through a PA, you could play a gig with it. It would have to rank up there with the lightest weight rig ever . It sounds GREAT. Best part is, you can get just about any tone you could ever need probably, just dial it in (press buttons ). It fucking ROCKS!! Computer speakers ...whouda thunk?!?!

And it only cost me $12.00. I almost feel guilty. Not quite, but almost.

    Oh yeah...

I've used the RP50 through a real amp many times, and never really like its tone at all. With no amp to color the tones whatsoever though, it sounds damn good!!

I have done this as well with my ZOOM G2. Works great and is way more portable than a big amp.

I used a death metal pedal once through the back of my cab, with the head disconnected, and it sounded great. (It sounds bad through my tube amp though.) It had some hum, but I could shred on it. I have a few friends and all they have are shitty solidstates, and I sound so bad. But I have a decent portable rig now. JUST my firebird, 2 cables and a death metal pedal!
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

That pedal made my nice amp sound like shit.

I could shred with it, and not on yours.

You cant plug a distortion pedal into the back of a cab and have it work

I used to run one of these...

Through a tube stereo my friends father built. It actually sounded rather awesome at the time.

Much like my Atari Lynx though, I never found another person that had one to jam along with...

You won't have a speaker cabinet too long if you keep doing that. Some people's kids!
You must only use a speaker cable in the cabinet from the cabinet to the head. Do not use instrument cables, and do not plug anything into the cabinet except a head or power amp.

Joe, this is gonna sound stupid but. How do you tell the difference visually between the two?

They both have 1/4" jacks. The reason I'm asking is because I've got probably 20-25 cables of different lengths kicking around and don't want to cause un needed damage if I can prevent it easily.

                    Thanks

Speaker cables are usually thicker, but not always. If you can't tell, then you'd have to unscrew the plug and look...

Instrument cables have braided wire around the outside of a single shielded wire.

Speaker cables have two shielded wires and no braided wire.

I used a speaker cable. My pedal has two outputs. One to an amp, and one to a PA. I used a speaker cable from the PA into the back of my cab. The pedal recieved a power supply. Do NOT tell it won't work, when I am CLEARLY saying it did.

I know. I wasn't getting mad. But I DID just plug my pedal into the cab. By power supply, I meant a nine volt battery.
