  • The new MXR m116 Fullbore Metal

Last night I got an MXR m116 Fullbore Metal pedal not a bad buy for $100.00 bucks. Took a little bit to get it dialed in but once I did I was finally able to get the scooped mid sound out of my setup that I had been needing. Yeah, I don't much care for the scooped mid sound but we play a mix of covers and originals and with out a scooped sound of some sort in my arsenal some things just didn't sound right. The built in noise gate is kind of handy and adjustable aswell. Now all I need is to replace my TS-9 with a GT-OD and I will have a complete MXR pedal set. If your looking for a nu-metal sound on the cheap, it's at least worth trying out.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

I've been impressed with them so much I have a compressor of theirs, a analog delay, and a 10 band EQ. They all work very well I can honestly say I've been impressed with their quality my only non-MXR pedal is a Ibanez TS-9 that I'm going to replace with an MXR GT-OD as soon as I can find one somewhere. Going from a digital processor with a solid state amp to Pedals with a tube amp has rejuvinated my playing peak interest. Glad I found good pedals IMO to help me with what I need for sounds. Also been buying other things from the Jimi Dunlop company strings , switched to their picks just recently as I can't find Claytons anywhere except on the net and I would rather hand cash to a person than a card # over the net (call me old fasioned), slide and guitar care stuff, polishes and such. So far I have no complaints.

What were you using before for strings, because I was wondering about dunlop strings, all Ive ever used are DR and d'addario.

My musical life started with GHS Boomers got tired of breaking them and went to Ernie Ball Slinky's used them for years but they seemed to go dead fast and I couldn't keep them in tune, could've just been me. I tried a set of DR the painted ones they looked trick for a little while and they went dead fast. I do have d'addario's on my drop B guitar ( a set of 7 stringers with the .10 tossed, giving it .13- .59) they sound fine and are holding up well but don't use it much so it's not giving me much to go on. I am a tightwaud so I try things out that give me bang for buck and the dunlops last well and they aren't that bad priced. I use skinny top heavey bottom .10- .52. I can't break them and they sound good for a long while. The only problem I find is shops carrying them, not many shops in my area (both of them, between home and a state away) they don't carry Dunlop and if they do they only carry standard sizes. But like everything with playing guitar it's always a sacrifice. If you're using DR and d'addario and like them I would stay there, IMO they are a great sets of strings but they are twice the price. Strings I think are a, you get what you pay for thing. But Dunlops are worth a try I fell considering what you pay for them if you don't like them you aren't out much.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm curious...

Does it really sound like this:

            JB aka BenoA

Clips and other tunes by BenoA / My Soundcloud page / My YouTube page
Guitar And Sound (GAS) forum / Boss Katana Amps FB group

No problem I've revived ones that have been dead alot longer. As long as you run it through a sealed cabinet open back stuff lacks the real punch. Drop tunings love this pedal aswell they help with the low end of the mid-scooped sound.
