  • Biyang, Mars, Artec Pedals

If you know anything about me, you know I'm a cheapskate. I've posted threads about the Biyang, Mars, Artec Effects pedals. I'm still using them almost daily (in the house, no gigging), and absolutely no problems, complaints or negatives at all at this point.

Honestly.....they just sound plain GOOD. I cannot ask for anything more than that from them. Nice tones are had from all of them.

Right now I use (not all of my pedals on my board, just the "no-names"):

    Biyang Metal End
    Biyang Overdrive
    Biyang Acoustic Simulator
    Biyang Delay
    Artec Overdrive
    Artec EQ
    Mars Envelope Filter

Anyone else given these a try yet? I've got nothing but good things to say about them.

My local store sells Boss, BBE, Digitech, and Electro-Harmonix. I would consider cheapies but I won't buy them online so I stick with the above brands and I'm pretty happy with their products.

Yeah, I was looking strictly at the brand names, but didn't have all that much $. I looked at the Metal End online shrugged my shoulders and grabbed one. Liked it so much, I grabbed one of their different pedals per week for a while. Glad I did it. There is no way I would have been able to afford this many of the comparable brand names' offerings.

Are the biyangs Boss knock-offs? The acoustic simulator pedal seems interesting. Can it do nylon sim as well as steel string?

I dunno I've never used a Boss AS, but I don't think so. I'm sure that they don't use their own designs, but I don't know which company they swiped it from.

I'll have to look and see what the settings are on it. I just found a setting that I liked, and left it there and that was a long time ago. So not really sure about the nylon/steel capabilities are.
I'm pretty sure that it is steel only, but depending on where you sdjust the knobs, it thickens and warms up nicely. It loses the "twang" of steel stringed acoustics, but doesn't quite pull off the nylon string sound. Just a brave attempt

Just checked out the Boss AC-3 on youtube. There is no doubt that it is a much more capable pedal. However, I didn't spend much. I think it was $25 used, and I am really happy with the tones I get out of it.

One thing I've found that it is really good for is, I have a VERY dark sounding ampplifier (Crate V18 2x12) and using this pedal not only for the AS capabilities, but also to brighten up my guitar's tones. It's like scraping the mud out of the speakers. It works really well for that as well. I'm sure taht is not what they thought of when they were making this pedal, but I'm not known for following the rules.

I have the analog delay and I am very happy with it.
As far as being knockoffs, the rumor is that a company called 'Righteous Tones' designed these, sent some prototypes to China for production and then a short time later identical units came to market from China with the Biyang name. What do they say? Lay down with dogs and you come up with fleas?

i've got the Biyang anologue delay... and i'm a little dissapointed with it.
i like my delay set low and i'm having a hard time keeping it at the right level because the sensitivity of the knob is making it hard get the sweet spot. its either too loud or too quiet. i need more range of motion in the lower area of the knob. also it eats batteries for snacks.

its still usable, but i've found it a lot easier to just not use it live.

It does eat batteries. I run mine off the power on my pedal board. Do you run it in the loop?

nah, i've got all mine going through the front right now. don't have the cables to do it the right way. and i'm trying to keep it simple and quick. we don't play live enough to make it worth my while to reconfigure at the moment. plus i only play rhythm with the occasional harmony part that would call for delay. so i really don't use it that much anyway.

Put it in the loop and it will make a world of difference. Delay sounds like crap through the front.

all modulation effects (including chorus) sound better in the loop. But there are no hard and fast rules. Try it in front as well and see which gives you the sound you're after
