  • Anyone remember the amp headshell I built?

I'm currently building a Soldano SLO clone, and although I don't have all the parts I need yet for the internals, I did finish building the headshell. Originally, I covered it in candy green tolex, but made an unfortunate mistake. I drew some layout lines on the inside of the tolex with a black sharpie. Shortly after I finished the tolex job, it became apparent that the black sharpie was bleeding through the tolex.

Here's what it looked like before:

You can just make out the faint black line at the front edge of the top. After a couple of days it had gotten way worse. I considered just painting it, but I didn't really like that idea. So, I ordered new tolex, and stripped off the old stuff. What a chore that was. This is how it looks now:

    What do you think?

Thanks guys. I'm glad you like it. I know camo is not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it would be something different and unique. I was a little worried at first because even though I was very careful while gluing, the tolex had bubbled up in a few spots and was very loose. Maybe it was a temporary reaction to the contact cement, because overnight, it tightened right up, and all the air bubbles are gone. Now the tolex is tightly glued against the surface, and is very smooth.

I'll be sure to post some pics and clips when it's done. Gotta buy my trannies and tube sockets.

Are you sure you aren't an Albertan? Everything we have out here is camo.

                    Haha

I could build you a head shell.

Yeah, the trannies, tube sockets, and pots are all I need. My boards are all finished, waiting to go in. I think the wiring is going to be the most fun part.
What kind of trannies do you have?

I love jcf. So many talented people. I wish I knew how to build amps.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.
