    Hey Guys,
I hear this preamp unit has gobs of gain and is very tweakable. I have a chance to get this for $125 shipped. How usable is the gain? Can I get thick distortion with low-end like a Mesa or Uberschall with this? Right now, I'm tuning myself to be the guitar -> amp head -> cab kind of guy. With this, I'd have to buy a tube power amp, rack fx's, foot controller, etc. Is the unit so good that its worth all the hassle?

    thanks
    Sam

You could always put the pre into the return of your amp FX loop. The pre is very good - I had one about 10 years ago - tons of gain. Very usable - it was a predecessor to the Chameleon, so it is SS. Still, it's a blast to use.

Edit: I had the Pro Q, not the Pro GAP, so never mind. LOL

        DOH!!! j/k Toejam.

The Pro Gap is a very nice preamp.
        Just make sure it's V2.0

Another one to keep an eye out for is the Rocktron Piranha.
        Has two 12ax7s in it.

Thanks guys! But I just couldn't convince myself to go back to the preamp/poweramp, racks, etc. I just dumped the cash for a Blackstar HT-5. I've been listening to a lot of clips of the blackstar and it will be a nice "Marshally" complement to my Mark IV.
