After getting my el cheapo noname powered computer speakers to use with my Digitech RP50 and REALLY liking the results, I was thinking very hard about getting a powered studio monitor to use as opposed to those speakers. I'm thinking about the KRK Rokit Powered 5 Generation 2 monitor

but do not really know anything about them.
Someone with experience with these please chime in and give me the pros and cons of these things. I really want to know how loud I can get them, how they sound, and durability.

I have a pair that I use for my computer/recording desk. I love them, they are great. If you have little fingers around that like to push in soft things then be careful as the drivers are exposed. Soundwise they are great. I've had them loud but not cranked all the way but they sound good ar what I'd call moderate volumes. They are solidly built too. Not throw them in the back of the truck for a week kind of solid, but if I dropped something on one I would expect the speaker to hold up well. They are quite heavy and well damped.

One thing with the 5's is they are only flat to 50Hz or so IIRC. If you like lots of deep bass extension plan on adding a powered sub. They still have decent bass, just not shaake the floor kind of bass. The multiple input choices and the high cut adjustment are quite handy too. I run mine with a small yamaha mixing board to allow my computer and line 6 toneport to output through them as well as being able to throw on an MP3 player or even the direct speaker simulated line out from my amp.

They are a great value for the money in my opinion. The Mackies sounded a little better to me but they also cost more than double the KRK's.

I was thinking of grabbing a Behringer V amp pro...both the guitar and bass rackmount models...maybe a rack EQ and probable a BBE Sonic Maximizer and use the Rokit 5's (maybe 6's) as the "amp". Hopefully it'll sound somewhat decent. I'll make a rack out of home depot stuff for the rack gear. Something small and manageable space-wise.

My Toneport, pocketpod, and korg pandora PX4 all sound nice through them. Not as much Umph as the 12" on my real amp but still nice and clear.
