    Modded MT2

I had a modded Metal Zone for a while. I was told by the seller the mod was a "recto mod". It sounded great but honestly I had no way to compare to stock. I will note it was more versatile than I expected. It was capable of a cleaner OD and of course a razor edge grit.

I sold it and the guy who bought it a/b it with his other guitar player's stock Mt2. They both confirmed it was thicker, notes were more defined, more output too. I guess if I had to buy a "best" metal pedal, I'd trust in the variety of modded MT2's out there. Seems to be a popular pedal to mod and gets results.

The Monte allums mods does wonders to the pedal. It becomes very smooth and you can roll back the guitar knob and get decent cleans. You can also use the pedal as an OD pedal by scooping out the gain completely. A OD pedal with a parametric equalizer. Now, that's not something you come across everyday.

however, the original MT-2 has quite a bit of presence which seems lost after the mod. Its like a blanket put over the speakers.

The new MXR "Fullbore Metal" pedal seems to be getting good reviews. Seems like it has some nice useful features. Scoop switch, built in gate, etc...

I use a Allums MT-2 into my 6505+. I don't really touch the semi-parametric mid, I'm not sure what to do with it yet.

I set the distortion to 0 and the level to 5. From there I dip out a bit of bass from my tone and push the treble a little harder. Some of the bass slips by the preamp clipping while the trebel gets it's ass handed to it in the pre. From there I boost the bass back in the FX loop with an Allums GE-7 and make sure the trebel isn't too in my face. I have the post up to 2.7 or so to get some more powertube breakup of the signal and attenuate it back down with a THD Hotplate.

My guitar signal goes for a roller-coaster ride and comes out screaming (and with shit in it's pants) and it's all due to my MT-2.

MT-2 all the way, take one out of the garbage and snip out the clipping diodes (just the 2) and use it as a clean boost before you get rid of it in favor for your beastly preamp tube tones.

If I didn't have an MT-2 laying around I'd like to try a Sparkle Drive to see what all the rage is about.

The best way to overcome this problem is to install a multi-position switch. You can add circuitry to it so you arn't 'stuck' with a single voice. Mine operates as sustaniac, recto, and clean boost. I've done the same to a TS-9 and a DS-1 with great results. These are not my designs, the are all available from Allumns website (called tri-gain mod). It's pretty easy to re-voice to your own liking once you see how it works. I'm going to remove the 'recto' portion of mine and put it back to good 'ol dirty stock. Other than that it is always setup to work as a clean boost through my 6505+.

            Nyah see!

I freaking love mine - my son spends a lot more time on my rig since I added it to my pedalboard. Ridiculous levels of gain - makes my Stiletto rage!

Why do I still want MORE?

                Boss GE-7

                Great tone/gainshaping pedal
use it as volume boost/cut, or freq. specific boos or cut
                or both
