Glad to hear the update finally worked. I too would like to know how you compare 5.x to 9.x sound-wise. There have been so many changes since version 5 that you'll probably want to consider rebuilding your presets from scratch to optimize them for the new firmware.
Yes, when I get a chance I will set up both QSC powered monitors and check it out. I only briefly tried one QSC with it to make sure everything was working. Its a good thing I read the Install Notes that came with the new firmware too! It said if upgrading from anything prior to v6.07 to 9.03 you will need to go into the I/O menu to make one adjustment. Without that adjustment I had absolutely no sound The adjustment only took a few seconds to do but I never would have thought of it on my own. From now on I will keep up with the firmware updates more frequently.
Go see Megadeth...Mustaine and Broderick are now both going direct live. Here's a pic of Dave's rack taken at a recent gig. The guy who took the pic said that those Marshall power amps were never even turned on.
The funny thing is I just saw a brand new Mustaine signature full Marshall stack the other day (a JVM). You'd think he would have this at least sitting out during their show!
I could only find a pic of the upper cab, but u get the idea:

I am still waiting to hear one live. I will certainly chime in once I hear one live. The clips online are great but that doesn't mean squat live.
John, at this point all I can determine is that you're in self-denial and dont want to fall in love with the AXE. Which is completely fine!
Lets assume you do see someone playing it live; just like any amp, this unit can be setup to sound HORRIBLE. And just like there are a million ways to set it up to sound good, you can set it up to sound horrible too. :ROTF:
I watched a concert the other day where there was just one guitarist in the band and all he had was a Les Paul into a Dual Rectifier into a Marshall 4x12. His tone was thick, mid-rangey and every note he played could be heard very well. I was truly impressed. And then it happened! After the third song, his amp started giving problems and the sound started dropping. All they had was 15 - 20 mins time-slot and they just had one last song to play. He was struggling for a couple of mins and when the crowd was just staring at them and the vocalist was done talking and making jokes, they decided to pack up regretfully. Then all by itself, the sound came back again on the amp and that last song was their best! With the AXE, just like digital signal its either a 1, 100% working or 0, where you can run to your backup amp in the car.
Well, I got one two weeks ago. It's amazing!!!! I set here thinking of all the money I've spent on amps:think:.... Finally..... this thing sounds like a million bucks!!! I just have it plugged into one QSC powered spreaker. I took the Jtm 45 patch and changed the EQ and a few other settings. It sounds better than I could get any of my real Marshalls to sound...And thats just one....Too cool,....love it...

Congrats! I started with one QSC then picked up another one used off one of the boards I'm on so I can run the Axe Fx in stereo. Although live I only run one QSC and one XLR cable to the FOH and thats it.
BTW, I love the Axe FX but that doesn't mean I have to give up my tube amps. In fact I've probably bought more tube amps since owning the Axe Fx than before. It has nothing to do with whether the Axe Fx sounds better/worse/same, I'm just a gear whore and want all those amps

100% correct. I am in total denial. Mainly because the crappy economy has forced me to give up my amp whoring!!
I got my Axe FX Ultra three weeks ago, and I haven't tweaked any of the presets yet... to me, they sound AWESOME right out of the box. (it came loaded with the latest firmware, so that prob makes a difference)
Using the Ultra with KRK studio monitors... and in the process of selling everything else (except keeping the Mark V as a backup)... simply don't need them anymore.

Mustaine doesn't have a sig JVM. Just the DM1960 and MG Megastack.
Yeah, I see that the hoopla is for the cabs, but the stack I saw in the store had his anarchy logo spray painted on both cabs and the head on the side. It also had the same custom tolex as the cabs, but you're right, the head didn't have any custom plate on it designating it mustaine.
A question for you AXE- ULTRA users: Can you switch amp models without messing with the current FX you have running? For example, I'd like to have a patch that was reverb, and then be able to go to a AMP patch A to AMP patch B without having to mess with the reverb. I've seen other multi systems like this but I'd need to have a reverb patch for each amp model I want to use. Does this make sense to you all?

joe...
Yes it does make sense.
You cannot literally change the amp model (in real-time with MIDI) in a preset but you can set up (2) different amps, cabs, etc in a single preset and fade/switch between them with leaving everything else in the preset the same. You can also turn on Delay/Reverb Spillover so when if you do switch presets, the deley and reverb will smoothly transition during the switch.
