  • splitting inside the effects loop?

I've noticed that I like certain effects all the time, others only when I play clean, others only on dist. channel. Everything is going through the effects loop. I was wondering if anyone has tried splitting the signal inside the loop instead of hitting a bunch of on/off switches on each pedal. Like have it gtr> amp input> effects send> tuner> eq> A-B box (1 input, 2 outputs)> (1st A-B output) chorus> input #1 of a Y connector... (2nd A-B output) boost> gate> input #2 of Y connector.... The from the single output of the Y connector> delay> effects return. Then I could keep the loop on all the time with the ones not in the split area and use the A-B box for the ones I want to use with whuich channel. I'm not asking about what pedal should be where, just if it would work with the A-B box and Y connector. What do you think? Here's a pic for the idea:

I don't know if it would work with an A-B box & Y connector, but there are options available - like loop boxes, for example - that would let you do it.

i tried it once with 2 different amps, my boogie mkIV and my rivera m100. using an ABY box - the morely - created a ground loop. it wasn't worth it to me.

they have some cool pedal switchers though, like the voodoo labs stuff and rivera has one - don't remember what it is called though. those do some cool stuff. i'd check into that.
      GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

      and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Rocktron has a new unit out that is called the loop 8 floor I beleive, It's basically their patchmate with a footcontroller built onto it. It has 8 loops and 8 switches that are programable. You can program a lot more using another midi pedal though.

        It's about 300.00

Holy crap! $300 is a bit steep for the hobbyist... Which I am.

The y-connector won't quite work. Rather you can easily build a box with two switch selectable loops.

Yea, 300.00 is real steep for me to. I had a regualar type switching system before(GcX, and a Ground control Pro), but those types of systems are gonna run you about 800.00 for both units, and from what I can see MOST any brand you get , it will cost about that.

Since selling that thing, I have all these pedals and like you, I don't really want them all on at the same time, I use chorus for clean only, but I want delay on all the time when I use my phaser etc, and I certainly hate having to hit one button to change my amp channel to clean, then hitting the chourus, then hitting the distorted channel and the phaser and the delay when a solo comes up, OMG what a mess

The Rocktron unit would allow you to program banks of whatevercominationss pedals you want on or off, plus change the channel on your amp for you. So basically it will do what you want(and More) but instead of having to change your amp channel, then selecting wich loop you want( using your idea, if that would even work) You just hit one button and go

Here is a link to it.

Rocktron Patchmate Loop 8 Floor Switcher | free shipping | guitar & bass effects and accessories from Macdaddy Music

It was pretty much the same price everywhere I saw it.

In case you are like me and want to know the size of the thing, it is 19 inches by 5 inches, I had to contact Rocktron for the info, to see if it would fit on my current pedal board with all the other stuff on there.

One other thing to remember when using something like this, it takes a LOT of cables depending on how many pedals you have. Basically 2 patch cables for each pedal, plus one to connect each loop to the next.
