  • Drop tuning via FX

I have an EMU Proteus 2000 synth module. It has a "master transpose" tuner which means I can alter semitones without having to fine tune, and without unwanted artifacts.

So, if I wanted to do the same to a guitar, thus saving the need to drop-tune and re-setup my guitar, what should I be messing with on my Boss GT-10? It's pitch shifter seems too limited in that it introduces gargling and/or slicer noises (something to do with formants?) at +/- 3. I've yet to try moving the FX block, though I have used the same settings in FX1 and FX2 in their factory positions within the FX-chain, with interesting results as I've disabled one block and switched the other one on, even both simultaneously. I reduced the pre-delay and direct level to zero, switched the mode to mono. Either way, the result is a lower output and boosting the master level produces a less desirable tone.

I'm guessing TC Electronic's G-Force or the Fireworx might do a better job in the GT-10's loop.

    Your thoughts please.

My Digitech GNX4 and TC Electronic G-Major both do a good job. There's also a new Morpheus Drop Tune pedal that is made to do just this, so I would guess it should do a good job of it.

I wasn't aware the G-Major did that (though it was years ago when I tried that unit and wasn't impressed with it falling apart inside). I just checked out the Morpheus Drop Tune - exactly what I want. Thanks!

I just mentioned this on another thread today. The WH4 whammy pedal by digitech has a drop tune pre-set. It lowers each note a whole step. IMO it sounds good. It might be worth checking out.
