  • New amp week! Bogner content!

    Uberschall Rev Blue !!

Finally, I got my hands on one! Actually I got it late last week. But I've been busy drooling over it. Its got =C= EL34's and it kicks serious ASS!!! I actually got a mild headache after playing on it the first night I got it. Its got some serious low-end! The notes are super thick and super fluid. Godsmack's awake tone is super simple to get. Turn the gain down a little, and it becomes nice and tight, but still super fat sounding. Alternatively, rolling off the volume knob gives it a nice crunch!

Clean channel is really good. But the only complaint is that to match a quarter turn of the distortion channel's preamp volume, I have to turn the clean's volume all the way up. I dont play clean that often so its quite ok. No hum, no buzz even at gain 3/4's way up. And it all totally usable gain all the way...unlike the 5150's or even the Mark IV's where it just starts to sound like clipping...it just starts getting more sizzle and bite as you keep turning past 1/2 way point. There is enough gain and sustain for all types of metal. The bass can be too loose at times especially playing with a guitar tuned to C or B. But a clean boost in front of the amp tightens up everything just fine.

There is no bad spot I could find so far. Turn up presence all the way up, turn up treble all the way, turn down bass all the way...crappy tone right? Not on this amp. It just becomes super bright, yet has LOTS of fluidy sustain. perfect for some badass black metal!

Anyway, enough talking, here is the pic...

And here she is, hanging out with the rest of the gang on top of my DIY 2x12 Birch closed back cab.

But did you get that Bogner crunch you didn't get out of your Mesa?

And can you get Mesa sounds out of your Bogner?

Good stuff - congrats. Get some tolex on that cab!

I'm glad you guys asked. Yes, the Mesa can do the Bogner sounds. In a blind test, you wouldn't be able to make out the difference.

However, can it do ALL the sounds the Bogner can? I dont think so. It does not have the super fluidy thickness at high gain levels that the Bogner does. The MK IV sounds thin. It could be because I'm running it in Class A with only 2 EL34's which reduces the amp's output wattage quite a bit. But again the on board GEQ is super sensitive and I can get many tones.

The other way around, can the Bogner do all the tones the Mesa can? Not a chance! Maybe I need to spend more time turning knobs on the Bogner, but it seems just good for Modern metal and that's it. The cleans on the Mark IV are much better than the Bogner and there are a LOT of tones on the Mark IV with so many on board options.

yeah. I'm building a second 2x12. Once I'm done with that, I'll be ordering some tolex.

Yeah that clean channel thing was a deal breaker for me. At gig volume i had the clean pegged and it could not keep up with the dirty channel at 10 o'clock. don't understand how they can let that happen. it is great for metal rhythm work,I just could not find the sweet spot for leads.Found myself constantly twisting knobs.Clean channel was great also, just no loud enough. I just let my Uber go today.Traded it for a sweet Les Paul.
Back to the Quick Rod. No trouble finding the sweet spot there.

^ Hey! Sorry to hear, you let it go. I dont have any fx's in the loop. maybe I'll make use of the lil trick of using the send level as a volume boost. When I want to go clean, I'll kick both switches on the footswitch. I might be getting the footswitch by mail tomorrow. We'll see.

Congrats on the Uber. Its a killer high gain amp. You found the same thing I did as far as the clean channel goes, nice but can't keep up with the high gain channel as far as volume matching goes. Thats o.k. though as the high gain channel alone is worth the price of admission. I think the clean channel is better left for pedals through the front of the amp as opposed to a true clean channel for live use. The other thing I found on my Uber is that its effect loop is very sensitive to whats in it. I gave up on running anything through its loop as it only degraded that great Bogner distortion. I run effects through the front of the amp only now. Use the loop foot switch for solo boost as you said
