  • EL34 and 6L6 in Single Rec

Is it possible to put EL34 and 6L6 tubes into a Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier, or is there not a space to do that? Or could I mix EL34 with 6L6 in the amp?

Some amps let you do it. Some dumbass put 6L6s in the first Marshall I bought and it worked. I can't remember 25 years back as to how it sounded. It was a wierd Marshall - 4140 Town and Country (Marshall's answer to the Fender Twin). I was stupid - it said Marshall, and it was only $300 in a pawn shop.

not in a single rec. in a dual rec yes because modern tube amps use power tubes in pairs. but since the single rec only has 2 tubes the output section can only be wired to run one type.

      hope this helps.

Believe it or not, you could design an amp to run two tubes of different types. I don't think you'd ever get a clean tone (maybe?), but the distortion might be interesting.

IIRC, if it's a series two you can use either 6L6 or EL34's without rebiasing, but not both at the same time.
