My Mesa F-30 has gorgeous cleans. I've never played anything that I liked better, but I've never played a Fender.
    Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

I loved the clean tones on my old F-30 combo, especially with the gain/bright knob pulled out.

Good lawdy what a pain to work on those though.

I love the clean channel on my Carvin VM100. Love the drive channel on it too. I played X-60Bs and an XV212 100-watt 212 combo for years and the cleans on them were just wonderful also. Really needed an SD-1 to de-flab the drive channel though, but SD-1s are cheap. Those amps love pedals in general.

According to Kerry King in this month's Guitar Player, the best clean sound is a chorus pedal straight into the PA.

I like some of the Mesa and Dr. Z stuff.

Whatever you do have, adding a compressor on the clean channel really enhances the sound IMO. I have one of those Carl Martin compressor/limiters and it really works well on the clean channel.

Nothing will ever beat the clean tones of an old Fender, imo.

Another vote for the Roland JC120. The cleans on my Carvin Bel Air are pretty damn good, too.

Fender cleans are very good, too, but dry.

I've gotta say, though, I've never really liked Mesa cleans - they seem somewhat flat and lifeless to me. Admittedly, though, I'm thinking of the Recs - I haven't ever tried out a Lonestar.

As far as solid state cleans, i have an old Polytone mini brute which are supposedly a sought after jazz amp but my Crate GX-130c kills it. It's an american Crate though. I'm actually surprised that it's still kicking with the abuse it has been through.
