  • Amp Score: Mesa Blue Angel 4x10

Just picked this thing up for cheap! I know it's not very sought-after Mesa amp, especially for metal / heavy rock, but I must say it's got a pretty sweet bluesy overdrive to it. I'm going to take it to practice today and see how it does with a distortion pedal slamming the input

Cool. I remember those. Post some pics.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow. Just got back from practice... definitely a one-trick pony amp, but it does that one trick (classic clean/overdrive) really well. The amp has its original tubes and doesn't seem to have been played hardly at all, basically in new condition. It's a nice contrast to my Splawn, which is like the total opposite amp in all respects!

Speakers are 4x10" Jensen Alnico, from what I understand.

Wow, I bet thats a badass amp, probably somewhat rare too. Congrats!

What does the progressive linkage control do? It's hard to see in the picture. I'm assuming it's a watt selecting thing or something similar.

                Answered my own question...

I bet that thing kills with strat single coils or P90's.

Yeah definitely sounds good with single coils. It also sounds really good with an acoustic / piezo pickup.

Awesome. Make a bi-amp rig and use that for cleans and the Splawn for distortion.

                        Pricey, but a safe method:

That is a very cool Mesa.
Personally I would just kick the drive up with an overdrive and all should be cool.
