  • Anybody playing on Fender Hot Rod DeVille 2x12?

I was wandering if there are any of you playing on 2x12 DeVille (Mexican re-issue). I like this tube amp, but I was just curious what are you guys setting it for nice cleans.

I'd like to set it up as clean as possible, and use my Boss GT for distortions/OD, delays, chorus, etc.

I was also thinking in replacing it with Vox AC30CC2, but I'm not quite sure about this.

    What do you guys think?

He was wandering. Now he's probably wondering where his thread went.

I have a USA Blues Jr. that rarely gets used. I keep it around just in case someday I might want something other than a Marshall, but after 12 years it hasn't happened yet.

Oh, and to answer your question, the secret to getting a good clean tone is to not turn the gain up so high.

Why not get a tube amp that can do overdrive and distortion instead of using a digital box?

Hehehe I'm not turning the gain up. Which Marshall do you use? Do you have any effects hooked up to it?

I played once on Marshall HS back in '90s that had 2 separate channels on the head-you could plug in two guitars with separately, and the tone was beautiful. Later on I never got to find out what the exact model was. I still look around for those Marshall heads trying to recognize it.

This Fender DeVille is 60w tube. Maybe I made a mistake by getting the multi-effect pedal insted of just getting few stomp boxes?

no, if you like the way it sounds then that is what matters.

as far as setting up the amp....i don't use THAT fender, but i do sometimes play fender amps with pedals. what i normally do is set the tone controls to the 12:00 position, then hook up my pedal. from there i will adjust the knobs on the amp to help make the pedal sound best.
                    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

                    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Maybe you need a Roland Jazz 120? Those supposed to be real clean. I see Roland Cube's used for demo'ing pedals because they are clean.

The much hated (on this forum anyway) DSL100 1/2 Stack. Mine is the Orange Crush version from 1998 (100 made)

Not really an effects kinda guy. I have a Midiverb 4 I can run through the effects loop. I have a BBE 442a, and some EQ pedals. The DSL100 with an EQ in the loop can get quite brutal, and can pretty much nail any tone I am after. But usually, I just plug-and-go with just guitar and cord, nothing in the loop.

a VERY POPULAR Marshall on this forum as you describe is either the 2210 (100 watt) or 2205 (50 watt). It's dual channel just like you said, and from the JCM800 era of Marshalls.

(On this forum) It is said that it doesn't have the balls of a JCM800, Can't get an EVH I or II tone.

On HC, most people like it but say you need an EQ in the loop and a boost in front (like a TS).

Some complain about the clean channel having more bass and the lead channel having more mids.

To me, it sounds perfect as is. I got suckered into buying EQs for the loop, but you only need those for certain extreme tones. I get by just fine without them for the most part.

I had the chance to buy a (small box) Silver Jubilee full stack for $2500 (negotiate down) at GC. Sure the Silver is great, I've always loved the Silver, remember trying the first Silver at the Azuza, CA GC back in 1987.

But the DSL give me a wider range of tones, cleans up better, etc. Maybe it doesn't have the one killer Silver tone, but it has a lot more variety to offer.

OMG If you're right, I'm buying you a beer ... or 12 pack.
Now I have something to go by and look around. Thx.

I'm not sure it's that one.

The one I was looking for has two inputs on the left hand side, and one was above another. Maybe my memory's faded ...?

If you're gonna run a Boss GT, then I'd look for an amp that has a nice serial effects loop, and run the GT into the effects return. For awhile, I was running my GT-10 into the serial return of a Randall MTS RM50B combo amp. The GT-10 worked GREAT with that amp.

Now I'm all about the AxeFx and run it into a PA monitor. I ran the GT-10 into the PA monitor for awhile as well, but it sounded better with the RM50B.

Don't let the digital groaners get ya down. A GT unit can sound real good if setup properly. First thing to do is avoid the factory presets and make your own.
