Just a pointer pertaining to Enter Sandman in particular, to really get the tone, you need two people playing it at the same time to really nail the tone. Either that or you need a rather dry very short delay in the signal. When done this way it really doesnt need to be super scooped either. Test my theory here, use your amp without the 10 band and BBE, and play along with the CD, and wiggle the 5th fret note in the riff every time you play it. Suddenly youll notice that your guitar sounds like its become part of the CD. The Black album uses a lot of multi-amp sorcery. The key to that songs tone is the human error between two individuals playing the same thing, theres the ever so slight difference in when the notes are picked between the panned tracks.
Even the same guitarist will play the same notes at ever so varying times from track to track, so layers is the key. The old Crate GFX amps had an effect called Doubler that would synthesize two different guitarists playing at once.
EDIT: Also, I found the clip without the EQ and SS to be closer to the actual tone. Try sliding 5 to 7 on the A string in the riff and dont forget to wiggle that 5th fret note on the E string. So E0 0 A5-7 E6 5~ E0 0 A5-7 E6 5~, I spent like the first 3 years of my playing trying to sound like the Black album. ; )
Oh, and play the open E power chord for the E0 0 parts.Last edited by Twitch; 04-27-2011, 01:07 AM.HTTP 404 - Signature Not Found

That's a well observed and good point. I've been in the studio recently, thickening up my tracks from months ago. I've discovered no FX is a magic shortcut to playing duplicate tracks at different moments in time. I also find it less time consuming and more fun to play the parts over rather than to fiddle with FX settings. It's interesting how slight human error, playing the same chords/notes, creates a natural spacial quality. Trying to reproduce the sounds we hear on CD's can be a daunting task with our FX.

I am not really trying to sound exactly like the tracks on the Black Album I am just going for that thick clean heavy sound without that low end Thud.
I can't stand palm muting and hearing that sound of a bag of shitty old potatoes slapping against the wall.
I the video I am rushing the Sandman Riff anyway.
