  • Need info from ADA MC-1 midi controller power supply

    Hey guys,
I need the info from the back of an ADA MC-1 power supply. In particular I need to know the size of the connector. I know that it's 9v AC or DC as well as the way the tip to ground is layed out and that it's 500ma. I just can't find out what size that connector is. It's not the standard size like you'd find on the power connection for a BOSS pedal or something. Any help would be appreciated or if you have a power adapter that you'd like to get rid of then that'd be great as well. I really don't want to get one of those honky universal style adapters with all the different plugs on the end.

    Mine ADA power adapter has:

    AC Adapter 240006
    Input 117vac 60Hz
    Output 9vdc .5a

    Hope that helps.

      That's what wirecutters are for
those 'honky universal style adapters' have served me well over the years and are none worse than any 'real deal' adapters you get for your gear

Don't be so sure. They are generally OK, but with the recent massive influx of shit pouring out of China, there's been a corresponding massive rise in house fires caused by.......cheap universal adaptors. (Bastard! I only read this the other day in a Trade magazine and have since binned it, so can't give you a reference) I'm not someone who necessarily spunks his cash on the branded article every time, but some of these cheap adaptors are fucking scary! Use your loaf, there's a reason these things cost nothing to buy.

And you really think boss adapters aren't MIC?

Yeah, but there's "Made in China" to an acceptable standard, using the correct components, for a price, inspected and quality controlled, compliant with European/US safety standards, and then there's "Made in China : cheap, fucking cheap, hey, it fits doesn't it and anyway, it doesn't draw much current, it'll be fine, it's the same shape and colour as the branded one, fuck it, that'll do, you can buy 6 of those for the price of a real one, ha ha, look, they've spelled everything wrong on the case, broody iriots, fuck me there's a shipping container full of them here, made in a sweatshop by child slaves" (um, I think that might be a description of an i-Pad)

Not dismissing alternatives to the branded item, just saying that in the past few years there has been a flood of consumer goods that look like the real thing, but are nothing of the sort, in every single field of the retail market. I reckon there's NOTHING that hasn't been ripped off by the Chinese, they see it, and knock one out (oo-er) for a fraction of the cost, even if they already make the original item. It doesn't even have to be goods of any value, those adaptors are pennies anyway, but they still find it worthwhile to cut some corners to make a few bob. Won't be long before they don't send a container full of anything, no more corners to be cut to make an item even look like a cheaper alternative, they'll just send the packaging. And guess what? We'll snap them up, because we love to save money. We'll shrug, complain that we've been stiffed, but only wasted a couple of quid, and then do it all over again.....

If it doesn't pass EU safety inspections it doesn't get shipped in, gotta love Tüv standards

Check out radio shack, they have a great power supply selection that can match up with many differant tips and ground configurations. I had the same problem awhile back and took my mc-1 in to the shack and was out of there in five minutes. This was after running around town and looking on the net for three days. I won't even bother you guys with my GC story on this.
