Distortion pedal needed

Ok guys, I'm trying to find a distion pedal for a friend that will pair nicely with an Ibanez RG into the clean channel of a tube amp. This will be for a gig in Europe so it must run on batteries. Looking for classic metal tones in Eb. Will be switching back and forth between clean and distortion. I will be testing some out this week so send me some recommendations to try out.

Glad I made you discover it. I was about to pull the trigger on one... But I bought a brand new 6505 and 2 4x12 cabs (also brand new)... :think: No more money for gear at the moment...

I have a few pedals that I've messed with but for a reasonably priced great sounding distortion pedal check out the MI Audio Crunch Box. If you really want classic distortion as in a Marshall JTM 45 sound try the Zvex Box Of Rock.

BTW, there are two versions of the Zvex BOR. The Hand Painted series is pretty expensive but the Vexter series, which is in the video, is what I have and its reasonably priced.

I'll second the Crunchbox. I use mine into the Blackface module on my RM100 to effectively give me a 4th channel

or the new Digitech Hardwire Metal Distortion

I still swear by the Fulltone OCD. Run into a clean tube amp, it gives me the most tube-like distortion I've heard so far.

All these pedals sound good I have some others that I use in front of an already somewhat overdriven amp such as the Fulltone OCD, Retro-Sonic 808, or Paul Cochrane Tim. And then a couple more I mess with every now and then into clean amps like the Fulltone GT500, Fulltone Fulldrive II Mosfet, and Xotic BB+. For more metal there is the Zvex Box Of Metal. There are so many good pedals out there that I simply stopped trying any more, I figured after getting the OCD in versions 1, 2, and 3 I better quit before I put more $ into distortion pedals than amps Of course the Bogner Uberschall needs no distortion pedal in front of it

Hey guys. I'm new here, but a pedal nut, so I figured I'd chime in.

Bang for the buck goes for a crunchbox, especially if you get one used. You can score them for about $75 bucks used. Great modded JCM800 high gain tones. It *IS* a bit of a one trick pony, but it does that trick VERY well.

For durability though, the hardwire's are hard to beat. Extremely rugged.

I really dig the sounds of the Maxon ROD881 Real Overdrive/Distortion Pedal, that I've heard. Might want to give those a listen.
