      I'm with Powertube.
      I love my Vetta.
They can be found for $500 (in the US of course), sometimes less, and for that price NOTHING is as versatile.
Currently at 78 guitars - Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Robin, Washburn, Carvin, Peavey, U.S. Masters, G&L, Hamer, Godin, BC Rich, Yamaha, Fender, ESP, Kramer, Cort, Ibanez, Aria Pro & Charvel

I'm agreeing with AK on this one - IMHO, the Vetta 2 sounds like twelve miles of ass.
          I like EL34s.

I respect everyone's opinions, but I have to ask...how much time have you guys spent setting up a Vetta? I was totally turned off to it the first couple of years it was out and swore that I wouldn't take one if it was given to me. But that's because I would plug into one at the store and run through the factory presets. Every one of those indeed sounded like "12 miles of ass." I still think they do.

But I now have about 18-20 of my own settings and most of them are to kill for. I can get a killer high-gain sound, warm, tight, responsive, etc... The cleans are awesome, as well.

I'm not being argumentative. If this was a dirt simple tube amp and you hated it, then there's really nowhere to go from there. But a Vetta takes a great deal of patience to tweak. That's the reason I ask.

truthfully, i have never played one. i was being sarcastic toward grim's statement that the vetta sounded like "12 miles of ass"...i am not sure what that means. 12 miles of ass could be good, if it is hot chick ass!!! 12 miles of ass could be horrible if it is cottage cheese butt....see what i mean?

Sure. I didn't take it personally! It doesn't bother me in the least if someone doesn't like a piece of gear that I like. That's what keeps the world interesting and it also keeps a lot of diverse companies in business. My angle is that I would hate for someone to miss out on the awesomeness of the Vetta by falling into the same trap I fell into for a couple of years; not realizing what it actually has in it. If I had known then what I know now, I would have had one much sooner.

I was a total "tube snob" for years until Line 6 hit the scene.

I use an Invader - You can't win this one. It is practically an all-tube modeller. So many availible tones it is stupid.
                    I like EL34s.

For less than 1500 you can score an Axe-Fx Standard. For home use all you would need is a decent pair of powered monitors, or you could add a power amp and cabs...lots of options and flexability with a rig like this.

ENGL has a new low powered amp that has gotten rave reviews. The new Fender Super Sonic 22 combo has gotten great reviews as a bedroom blaster, although the dirty channel supposedly gets "loose" at gig volumes.

                        ENGL just makes great amps.

If he likes the tones he gets from the Vetta II then he wins. It's immaterial to him what you or anyone else thinks. Perhaps he just dialed it in better than you did, or whoever you heard with one did. That's basically what he said. Without hearing the tones he got you have no way of knowing.
                          Ron is the MAN!!!!

                            I agree.

The real winner is the person who gets the best tone for the smallest amount of money. The core of my Rack (preamps and poweramp) cost me less than $700, and I wouldn't trade it if someone offered me an Engl or something similar for it, because I'm confident that I can dial in equal or better tones with my setup right now than I could with something like that, I just have to tweak it a bit more.

Rack gear, in my opinion, is the best way to go for the simple fact that you can change out specific things you don't like very very easily. Don't like a preamp? ok, switch it out for something else. That's why I run a Digitech 2101 Artist and an ADA MP1 (the ADA is soon to be swapped out for a Peavey Rockmaster pre and rocktron intellifex fx processor).

I can take more pride in thinking that my whole setup, great tones and all, cost me less than $1000, rack, cab and in one case, guitar included.
