  • Soldano Hot Rod 50 + a preamp?

    Gang, I've got a opportunity to acquire a used Soldano Hot Rod 50 watter.
    Its the ONE amp I've always wanted - to me - its the end all be all amp for me.
    To each their own, but my amp head quest would be final and done.
    Its a local acquisition.

    With that said;
    The following is gonna sound like a retarded question.

    I want to keep my ART SGX 2000 because its so versatile.
    I can get nearly any sound I want.
    Multiple effects and good ones at that and built like a tank.
    Its a piece I will not discard.

    Question:
    There is no FX loop/input on the Soldano.
    Can I hook it up to the Soldano ( where/what input) head and use the ART for effects?

    My cabinet is my Genz Benz 2x12 with the Soldano this will complete my basic small powerful and versatile setup.
    Tried and true. Sounds great loud and at quieter/lower volumes.

    Need to know where on the Soldano I can hook my SGX 2000 in?

    Thanks gang
    Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

    I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

    Don't know man. I have a HR100+ with the effects loop and depth mod. I don't know if you could run your pre-amp in to the input, or not, but I doubt it would work. Why not just keep looking for a Hot Rod WITH an effects loop? Alternately, you could get a JCA100. The new version has the depth mod, AND a 50/100 watt switch, plus it has the effects loop. In case you're not aware, the JCA is just a Chinese made Hot Rod.

      Thanks Zeeg.
      I have been rethinking this through, well sort of.

      How or could a A B switch/pedal be used in one of the inputs?
      Thus could I still use the Soldano goodness and still use the effects from the SGX 2000, aka the A B switch?

      Is it or would it be that simple?
      Or other equipment/gear gonna be involved?

      The whole idea is to keep the setup basic and effective.
      Meaning, keep it down to enough gear so mobility will be simple and practical.
      I currently put it all in my trunk and back seat with room to spare.

      And as of right now;
      I have a small rack that consists of 3 pieces.
      2x12 cabinet
      3 guitars (acoustic, Kami and a strat).

      Between the trunk and back seat everything travels well in my GrandAm.
      The potential addition of the Soldano there will still be plenty of room and won't force me to look at other options of mobility.

        What about having an effects loop installed?

          Oh yeah, that's the other option, and probably the best.
