Does anyone have one of these? From looking on youtube, it seems they can get heavy enough for Metallica/Savatage/Megadeth/etc, but I'm not sure based on some things I've read.

Do you hear a big difference in a 1x12 compared to a 2x12? Half stack is too big for me, so those are my options.

Maybe a tube screamer in front of it would thicken it up? I'm pretty new to the amp game since I've just used modelers my whole life.

The EL84's will not have the depth that EL34's have. but they will scream mid range. I definitely think you'll need a dirt box in front to tighten it up. But it is a good sounding amp.

Cool. I know nothing about pedals. I have a friend that works for Digitech, so I'd rather go that route, do they make anything that would do the trick?

I love my DSL100 1/2 stack, but I'd pass on a 401. Many issues with overheating. And I don't like combos much. If you want a kick-ass combo, check out something like my Laney AOR 50 1x12. The speaker is sealed so you get the boom effect of a cab. I have a V30 in mine as well, but if it had come with the original Fane, I would have kept that.

Cool - you talking about the AOR pro tubes? Looks cool to me. I believe Criss Oliva used Laneys for a time, no?

or the new hardwire series Overdrive used the same way.
