BTW... is there any where I can get the little knob caps for this amp? My amp is missing all but 2 of them. They are just little caps that snap over the end of the knobs.
You can get the inserts from Mouser. They also have different color inserts, I got some for my 50 watt head.
I posted these links on the Laney Posse, the part number for inserts are for black. If you look they have other colors like red, green etc. What's cool, is if you just need the inserts, these fit perfect and look original.
Well, the first thing that happened with these amps was that just about everyone lost the knob caps, so I'm not surprised to see and hear of Laney with caps other than stock color.
Well, I have owned this AOR 30 combo for almost 2 months now and I gotta say, its a great amp.
Throw a delay in the loop and you could cover a very wide variety of metal soloing.
The cool thing about this amp is that you can turn it up. It actually doesn't sound that great at low bedroom levels. Turn it up past 5 and it changes its entire personality. Its nice to be able to turn up a tube amp. I had it apart to check out the wiring and the board. All top notch. For all you guys into amp porn, this one would give you a woody!! Bone stock, made in England and built to last for the long hall.
Anyway, its the perfect 1 x 12 combo for a dude in a metal band who doesn't want to lug around a big rig. All tube and sounds bad ass.
I am thinking about putting this one up for sale or trade so contact me if any of you are interested. I really don't need it. I am amp heavy and guitar light at the moment!
Years ago a buddy bought a 30W head for cheap and had me retube the whole thing and bias it. Not bad, but I distinctly remember being thoroughly unimpressed with it. So was he.
It must be the little power tubes, because I've heard the EL34 models sound great.

I have heard and owned both. I think the 30w 6v6 sounds better. Tighter, with little to no fizz.
The EL34 models sounded good too but they needed to be turned up entirely too loud to hit the sweet spot. The sweet spot on the 30w AOR is with the master volume between 5 and 6!!!
Thats with the 3 preamp knobs set at 7, 8 and 10 repectively. Thats what I call TURNED UP.
I have to check over at the Laney forum because my AOR 30 combo doesn't say AOR 30R series on the front.
It just says AOR Series. I know its bone stock with the 6V6's and the Fane 12" speaker. Inside is unmolested and untouched. Its a very clean unmolested combo. All the pictures of the ones I could find online that are early models with the black tolex all say AOR 30R Series. Mine was manufactured 3/1985 so its definately an early example.
I am thinking its one of the first production runs. I think they started marking them AOR 30R in the front when they came out with the AOR 50 because they look virtually identical.
Mine does have the factory reverb too. Maybe I should post some pics of it tonight. I guess its much more of an interesting amp than I originally thought.
