  • My new Peavey Ultra head and 4x12 cabinet-Moved

There are 3 Charvels in the background so I figured it met the guidelines.

New Peavey Ultra Plus 120 with footswitch. Even has the cool Peavey logo that switches colors.

Off to the local guitar shop for a cabinet with some Celestians in it this morning.

Well I picked up a cabinet that would have been last on my list....A fender DT412. It has Celestian GT12-100's in it and for the killer price it sounds great!

          Well...cool.
I have a vintage Fender 2x12, but reserve that for...wait...Fender tones.

          Just keep an eye out.
People hate shipping 4x12's, and they can be picked up cheap.
Mesa, or 1960A's, or the misunderstood early 5150 cabs.

That's almost my exact setup. Ultra Plus head and Carvin 4x12 with G12T-100's. If you like bottom end (which I do) and clear highs (which I do), and ability for whatever you want from way scooped to way boosted mids (which I do), You'll love it!! I have the high gain JJ set from eurotubes in mine. Also a MXR 10 band in the loop. Let us know what you think..

Straycat>I've only got a few hours on it but so far so good.

I think anything lower than std tuning might not respond well using the Fneder cabinet though. I may be on a quest for what I originally wanted the Mesa 4x12 or Marshall. I guess I wont know until I play the head through a bunch of them.

Cygnus> I'm just happy to have finally made it into the tube world and the amp is killer!!!!I do have a few Fenders though..lol What Mesa's and is there only one 1960A Marshall cause the local GC has a used one for $300. They also have a floor model Mesa 4x12 Recto for $600.

How can you tell an early model 5150 from a later one?

300 for the 1960A is a good price (depending on what it has for speakers).
My Peavey is #2 series, Block logo in the lower right of the cab.
They rattle unless you place a screw into the center block!
But the Sheffields are good (sound like V30's to me), and should be available
                for 200 or less.
I paid 180 for mine, good shape, only one tear in the tolex.

Sheffield's are great speakers, the happiest I've probably been with my tone historically was when I had a regular Ultra head through a Peavey 4x12

then with an ADA MP-1 with the 3.666 mod, badass tones all around
