To me a good amp adds or subtracts just as much as a guitar. Both are parts of the equation that would not be the same is a part is missing.

Having said this, the only part of me that wants to see inside the amp is the part that graduated with the electrical engineer degree years back and not getting enough of it in real life. Otherwise why would you, I don't know.

Whatever blows your skirt up bro! lol......
That wasn't my point at all but hey, it's not my fault you can't keep your own shitty analogy straight.

How do you get from "results" and "how it sounds" to a paint job or wheels?

      Is the tone aesthetic/cosmetic?

      Try again, dude.

How is it that just because I don't care what the inside of an amp looks like, I'm not a "real" guitarist? I mean, I'm all for aesthetics and shit, but I personally have no clue what one cap does over what another cap does or what this resistor over that one should do...so how does looking at the guts tell me anything? There are quality built amps out there that look super clean and use top notch parts and SOUND like absolute shit to my ears, so what the hell does LOOKING at the inside of an amp do for my tone, much less do for making me a good guitarist? I agreed with you pretty much until those last few posts JG, but now you're getting quite ridiculous.

More than likely, a great sounding, quality amp will look clean on the inside and use top of the line parts, yes, but it's not mutually exclusive. You can make a clean looking amp and use killer parts, but that doesn't mean it sounds good.

          Because I said so!!! lol...
Its all good bro. You are correct. Just because and amp is built good with good components and has good attention to detail doesn't mean its going to sound good.
I also agree with you in regards to the amp porn remarks that really don't matter that much like using 16g cold rolled steel instead of 20g for the chassis. Unless you are dropping your amp off the end of the truck everynight who the heck cares! I don't even care about that.
Also.. even though its really important to use high quality amps when you are playing live regularly most of us started off with crap live and I personally never had problems with crap amps live either.
