If you can swing a bit more than $1200, get a used Splawn Quick Rod. they do marshall tones better than marshall. Splawn has far better quality IMO, and WAY better service. the tones dont ever begin to compare, splawn just walks all over a marshall..

I think its the best I've ever sounded. When I first plugged in, it was like insta-Demartini. Though it helps that I am just a cheap knockoff of him and Neal Schon... lol
When I first plugged into the amp it sounded so good I think a couple hours passed by before I put the guitar down. Just awesome sounding amps. What cab/speakers are you going to run yours through?Rudy

The Sheffields have sounded great so far, but absolute worst case I'll do some research into what speakers typically go best with SLOs, and find an appropriate cab. But I am confident the Sheffield's will treat me well as usual.
I just can't believe I've come into an SLO, honestly (no stealing lol, no parents buying it for me), at this point in my life. I should be set for awhile... just have to grab an AOR eventually as a backup.
and Grim, that SLO was in the Markham Long & McQuade at a very good price, I'm happy I showed it to my buddy when I did (and then we traded some shit and I wound up with it), because they had a handful of other Soldanos that are mostly gone now (I think there is a combo of some sort left)Last edited by Frigo89; 02-09-2011, 10:22 PM.Out Of Ideas

Shit... Probably about the best thing is to just start cruising the local guitar shops and see what is out there. Tone is a real personal thing. Some guys just say brutals and pick up a mesa recto but, then hear an Engl and freak for one. I personally thing Marshall sounds like sledgehammered shit but, people like them so, good for them. Keep saving for now until you hear something that really resonates with you and just don't jump at whatever someone tells you to buy. You will hate yourself later.Insert annoying equipment list here....

I can imagine a Greenback would work well with an SLO.
PS: I love the Yorkville cable. They are getting pretty common around this area! I've picked up a few myself. I still love BRTB cables, they come with a lifetime warranty and have served me well. (And are actually out of Markham)Last edited by Grim; 02-12-2011, 04:48 PM.I like EL34s.
