    Yes.

BTW, I use Beyerdynamic DT100 headphones. I'd have liked DT150's, but my VS2400 can't handle anymore than 50ohms.

I'm not too much into buying another combo amp or something that depends completely on a computer. though having it as a additional feature sounds nice.

does the Boss devices (GT8 and GT10) work completely without a amp?

and yes, axe fx is out of my league right now
It works without an amp if you use headphones - same as the pod you used to have. If you are looking at getting another floor based unit I would give the line 6 hd series a try. They really do sound better then the xt/x3 stuff.

        Roland Micro Cube.
Or one of those new vox plugs with a headphone out that they have different versions of for different styles.

Kickass bedroom rig..Digitech RP50 and a Little Smokey amplifier. Excellent tones with absolute minimal volume. (Cleans aren't the best...but still sound good but who the hell needs cleans anyways!)

Oh and if you have the cables already..I think you'd be into the rig for less than $100. Not too bad!

Check out the Smokey's vids. Pretty impressive little toy!

Keep your 2x12 cabinet - if I'm understanding correctly - don't change it. 2x12 cabs are versatile. They do loud and quiet well.

With that said and everybody's approach will be different.
Simple low wattage amp head of your choice (depending on your needs) (modeling amp would be fine in this instance).
You can do pedals straight through the head - its simple and versatile and easy to store.
Its a potential small simple arrangement that can serve and meet a variety or needs.

POD's I've heard many who love them and use them exclusively as part of their setup.
I've also heard many who hate them.

Your ear and eye is different them mine and vice versa.

Don't think to much about it you seem to know what you want and that's over half of the battle.
Consider the space/room you will be in and how you will arrange your stuff in it.
Try to keep it clutter free and tidy so it has a welcoming and organized vibe to it.

Have fun with the whole project.

For me, Boss Micro BR is perfect for rehearsing on my own with backing tracks and practicing.

Fender GDEC. You can drop it down to a whisper and it still sounds good. And you get drums to practice with.

                  GDEC = FAIL

Do NOT go near one of those amps.
Not only do they sound terrible, the backing tracks are weak, the effects are worse, and they have a lot of software issues.

Don't take my word for it though, go to the Fender FUSE site ((the software the GDECs use)) and read about them for yourself.

                    that through a 4x12

                    friendly neighbour hood practice equipment

The Black coated box is an Egnater-modded, Soldano SP-77 (as in Bruce Egnater himself modded it). Extra gain stage and a master volume on the back

                    badass as shit.

but I bet you can't guess the best sounding preamp of them all...

I've used both the Korg Pandora and the Line 6 Pod and found the size and portability of the Pandora, as well as the inclusion of drum patterns (cheesy as they may be) to be a plus. You can really get lost in the experience and definitely no neighbor noise complaints.

You could also look into an amp isolation booth. I haven't had any experience with them, but I know there are several manufacturers who offer such a product.

Here's a link to an article in EM from a number of years ago alluding to various alternatives to playing through a "live" amp:

thanks again for all the input; almost all of my equipment will stay anyway, it's just that I'm looking for sth to add for this special task.
I'm gonna check out some of the devices mentioned (some of the new PODs, GT10 and stuff like that) and we'll see...
