I don't have a Bivalve, but I've got a Univalve that's pretty damn cool! They're great self-biasing amps with noise reduction and power attenuation built in, and you can even go line out (line level or instrument level) to another amp or recording console without needing a speaker load since it's got its own built-in dummy load. Check out THD's site. http://www.thdelectronics.com/

They used to have a forum, but I guess it's gone now. $800 is a nice price for the Bivalve.

I had a Univalve...as Joe said, it's a great little amp. If you're looking for a tweaker of an amp that will get you loads of killer clean, blues and rock tones, that's a great price...just remember, you'll start buying a bunch of tubes on top of that to mess around with! High quality design and build.

I looked at these before I bought my amp, and I really liked the idea of it, but it didn't seem to have a real "metal tone" from the reviews - more of a blues/rock kind of thing.

I considered buying one from Guitar Center just so I could send it back if I didn't like it.

It definitely needs a pedal to boost it for heavier metal.
It's also a really good bass amp when using it with a larger tube like a KT88 (plugged into a nice bass speaker cab, of course).

Yeah...it's not gonna get you into high gain territory on its own, but it takes pedals well.
