Why this?

Today when i tried out a Bugera 333 2x12 combo and wired it to a marshall MG 4x12 cab it sounded like crap. The Marshall MG head is some transistor head with built-in effects and it doesnt sound good at all too.

When i was in another music store i tried out the mesa boogie dual rectifier with matching cab and compared it to the peavey 6505 with a randall cab.

i bought the 6505, and now when i'm using it with a cheap italian RNS 1x12 cab i still think it sounds alot better than the mesa boogie and the bugera at the other store.

i know it has alot to do with personal preference and all that, but i find it strange that i even think the 6505 sounds better than the EVH 5150 III

I bet for one thing that MG series cab probably had junk speakers in it. I highly doubt Marshall is loading those with good Celestions like they do in the 1960A and B cabs.

Avatar used to sell the celestion MG speakers for super cheap. I think they were under $100 for the set.

If it was why you prefer the 6505 cab over the EVH III I don't know. What speakers are in the 6505?

Maybe because you never asked a question? Beyond that, your questionless post is a bit difficult to follow...you talk about a few amps (333, DR, 6505) and in summary bring up another amp (5150 III) that you fail to mention as being one of the ones you tried. What is it that you are trying to answer?

I tried a 100w MG series head with a Marshall cab, and didn't like them as much as a 50w JMD:1 amp. Buying the JMD would cost over £300 less... :idea:

As for the other amps in the thread, well o.k. you liked amp A better than amp B. I don't see the problem or a question either. What does it matter as long as you ended up with the amp you thought sounded better?

One other thing that I've been hearing more of lately is that something sounds like crap. What exactly does crap sound like? Too much bass? Not enough treble? Do you get crap in the 1khz - 1.5khz frequency range? Is it related to the brown sound?

my question is, how can the 6505 be so good? how can other amps that cost more than the 6505 be worse, or better? how does it come that some manufacturers make good amps over 1000$ and bad amps under 1000$? why do you have to pay more for a good amp from a specific manufacturer and less from another and get the same thing?
