Tried it out thru my 4X12 1960 cab and wow what a huge difference impressive to say the least.
Switched the amp to 16 ohms like the cab and put the high low switch to low, nice mellow growl on channel A (clean) with the gain on 7-8 very very nice tone, pick attack if strong you get some grit if you ease up nice and clean.
Channel B (dirt) holy cow balls out punch with the gain at 8 great OD at that setting over that is too much saturation.
High low switch to high on channel B good God loud but very sweet Marshall grunt and growl.Very freakin loud.
Channel A more bite and clear as a bell.I'm impressed with it.
Ran my OCD and memory boy thru the front and it reacted so well to the pedals way better than my other tube amps.
So I'm a happy camper with this amp.Great Marshall tone that's what I was hoping for.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I have the head version with EL34s. I seem to remember I got it in trade from jgcable. It's a fantastic amp. With do decent low gain stuff plugged straight in. With an EQ in the loop and an OD pedal in front, it will do tight modern high gain stuff no problem. I've bought and sold a bunch of other amps since I've had the 900, but always hung on to it.

Anyone who claims the DRs are no good, must be deaf.

Yeah, didn't you post some clips of that 900 when you first got it, Zeegler? As I recall, the clips sounded fantastic. Is there a particular JCM 900 head I should look for?

I'm sure I posted a clip at some time. Here's one:

As for which JCM 900 to look for, I guess it depends who is answering the question. Some people will tell you the only one that's any good is the SLX, based on the fact that the others have op-amps in the signal path. I say bullshit. The later JCM800s had them too, as did the Jubilee. The DRs take a lot of flack, yet they are widely used by recording artists. I can't vouch for the Mk IIIs and the SLX models, but the DR is a great amp.

Thats what I dont get about the 900 ney sayers. Theyre 90% the same people that put a SS boost pedal in front of their vintage amps but bitch about the 900s diode clipping circuit. How do they think a tube screamer works, fairy dust??
I played through the "house" JCM900 that Las Vegas House of Blues has when I went out to play with Steel Panther. First time I've played with a 900 and their sound guy Nick was somewhat apologizing for it but I thought the thing sounded great with my SL2H! Didn't Lynch use a 900 at some point?
