I own a DSL100 and it's very versatile. If you want to really dial in a sound, I suggest running an EQ through it. They sound best at loud volumes and don't breakup at bedroom levels. They're built to take a beating and I haven't had any issues with mine. I bought it used last summer. I believe it was manufactured in 2001 and still kicks ass.

Is there a way to tell the year based on serial number? I am kind of curious as to what year mine is.

Yeah there is, but I can't remember how to do it. Check out the Marshall forum online and search. Unless I'm challenged and missed the year stamped in the metal, you can find out arranging the digits of the serial number.
