  • Quality cables

What cables do yall use? I've been using cheap crap, and want to finally step up to some decent stuff. I like the thought of creating my own, like George L's stuff, but they seem too expensive for me.

Am I just being cheap, or are there other options out there?

I use Radial Vintage tweed cables. No audible difference to me between it and George L's with the advantage of being signifigantly less stiff. Plus they look cool and are easy to color coordinate (Gray = amp in, purple = send, red = return).

Belden 8410 for the last 10 years. Buy as much as you need to make your own cables using the ends you already have. It did a great job eliminating noise in my system.

hahaha, i have been using the same spectraflex cable since 1995. it is red and still works awesome!!! i do have a couple of monster cables that aren't too bad, but 99% of the time i just use my old spectraflex, especially live.

I use a Quantum cable from my guitar to my rack

since the signal goes through hundreds of $0.01 resistors and caps from there I don't bother much with quality cable anymore

(So far the only problem I encountered with cables was the one between guitar and rig going microphonic or breaking)

I use lava cable kits for all my patch cables but my instrument cables are from stompin ground. They make them to order out of a few different good brands of cables plus g&h or neutrik ends. I prefer the gepco x-band cable as it's the most flexible I've seen yet, has very low capacitance, and is very quiet. Those guys do really good work and have fast turn around.

I've been using Monster cables for some time now. I got tired of cheap cables going to shit on me at the worse possible time so I ponied up for something that was better at the time. It's paid off too. I've only had one go bad on me in the last ten years and with the lifetime warranty, I was able to get it replaced really easy. I need to redo my pedalboard with better jumpers though, I have kind of a mish mosh of different jumpers I've collected over the years. Usually, if I have technical issues, that's where I find it.

they do make a big difference to my ears. I use George L's for pedal board / instrument cable and Monster cable from heads to cabs.

I use Mogami in my entire studio and guitar rig. Mogami does not color your tone, and it keeps noise from cell phones, wifi, rf, etc. from getting into your rig. Plus, it's gauranteed for life, so I'll never have to buy cables again.

I've been using cables from Monoprice. They're pretty good, surprisingly!

I use George L's on the pedalboard for connectors and Zaolla cables from guitar to pedalboard as well as pedalboard to amp. You don't want to know the price of the Zaollas as they're expensive. I bought mine from a store that had a couple they were clearing out on E-Bay as well as one used one. I also use Evidence Audio Lyric cables from the amp head to attenuator as well as attenuator to cab. Again, picked these up barely used for a good price otherwise they're expensive. I've also used Belden cable bought in bulk and added Neutrik connectors for the ends.
I will say that after going with high quality cable in conjunction with a Furman Power Factor Pro power conditioner I ditched any noise gates for live use! The stuff works that good! And thats through some 100+watt amps.
