I think I'll hold on to my Ultra.
It sounds good at reasonable volumes and that's enough for me.

I'll probably catch some flames for this, but here goes. I haven't played across an Axe-FX, and their sound samples do indeed sound killer. However, just based on the samples/videos I've checked out, I really don't see where it's any better than a Vetta. And at least with the Vetta, Line 6 allowed users to Upgrade the original to a II with a free download.

In all fairness, if I could actually play them both back to back, the Axe-FX might blow my mind. But until then, I really don't see the justification.

All of the sudden there are 15-20 Ultras on Ebay instead of the usual one or two, several well under $2k too....maybe now I can actually buy one.

I tried getting one direct from Fractal here in LA and they were they jerkiest, cockiest fuggers i ever tried to spend money with. They basically told me 'Wait in line pal !!'.

No comparison, and YES, you have been able to download the new firmware any time it comes out...just like the Vetta.

Played through the right gear with someone who knows how to set them up, they will blow your mind.

can't d/l hardware upgrades though. The Ultra has more processing power than the Standard. The II has twice the processing power again, more RAM and the USB port that everyone has been bitching about. Hard to get that over your broadband connection

Yeah, I'm thinking those new IR's won't be backwards compatible either.

Don't feel so bad about having to sell my ultra now, got my full money back for it.
I'll get the II or a used ultra again either way, the ultra is plenty good enough as it is for me.
The integrated usb on the II is very welcomed tho.

I think that the ultra and standard will continue to be supported a little and they will cap them off eventually.
There's not a lot needed anymore for the units sold as they are. Maybe stuff with the foot pedal integration or something but i didn't even upgrade the last few upgrades before i sold it.
The units deliver everything they said they could. You should be able to get a lifetime of use out of an ultra as they are right now * shrug

I agree. If you are still wanting MORE from the current firmware, I think you might have some kind of incurable sickness.

I got 2 amps yesterday though, and had them both ready to roll with permanent tone solutions in about 10 minutes each, including tube warm up.

yep, after i sold it i plugged in my trusty mp-1 and didn't have to tweak shit, just start playing hehe.
i basically am using my pc now in place of the axe fx, can't run as many things real time but i don't really use much anyway - amp and cab ir's basically.
sometimes some verb or delay,.. bout it. latency is fine.
in fact i can run two cab ir's some compression and eq if i want and it's still fine depending on the weight of the plugins.

Yea, but the SLO and the Rectifier have basically remained unchanged for 25+ years.

The slo hasn't really change much since it was made though, aside from a few mods some people prefer.

I never got into the whole modeling thing, tube amps for me.
Not realy, the Rectifier has remained relatively unchanged for the last 25+ years except for the solo boost feature and a few other minor advancements. The amp in general hasn't changed at all. Same thing with the SLO and many many other amps.

Actually its good to see that they are finding room for improvements and taking suggestions. The fact they are putting in a USB interface is great, it solves a bunch of issues people have been having. Who knows maybe getting one of the AXE II's and having and Ultra as a back-up is a good plan???

The sad thing is I would bet anything that Fractal had the USB interface on the bench from the beginnning. Its all marketing.
Anyway, the Axe FX has been out for several years now and I have yet to hear one live anywhere and I go to a ton of concerts and clubs.
Maybe its an East Coast thing but nobody uses the Axe FX rig live around here.

I heard that the latest version of the Axe FX has an alarm clock built into it since 99% of them are used in bedrooms.
Maybe the new unit has a coffee maker port on it too.
