I love the modeling/tube amp debates. The entire time I was posting to this thread I was jamming through my Line 6 POD X3 plugged into my computer!
I do use a Randall RM100 live though. Have been for a few years now.
sorry, man. Didn't mean to spoil your fun

It would appear your the one with all the time on your hands? And I am the kiddie. I'll give you this you are funny!

Its all good bro. Just trying to keep it a little fun around here. I love stirring the modeling/tube debate especially since I use both regularly. Personally, I think that anything that sounds good.. is good.
My post count is high because my band has been busy in the studio for the last year recording our newest record. Lots of down time inbetween sessions! We are waiting for the artwork and formatting of the CD cover to be finalized and we can finally release it.

I actually got to play an Axe FX standard when my bandmate got one. It is really nice. Both of us played Line 6 stuff as well as tube amps. Though the amp sims are really good, I actually like the FX - really high quality. If the Vetta had those FX, I would be set. John - I think you would love to play with this one, but the question is do you prefer tweaking knobs or tweaking/swapping tubes...

If Fractal would release an 'axed' FX, with just fx, poweramp/speakersimulation, I just 'might' get interested

That's why I like my GSP1101. Granted, it's effects aren't as good as the Axe-Fx, but it was designed with the idea that many people will want to use their own preamp. You can switch between internal models and an external preamp on a patch by patch basis.

It IS all good! I have been around a long time, and have read many posts by you. I have learned over the years how much joy you get from a good "pot stirring". I wish you luck with your current project and I look forward to hearing some soon!

If you ever get a chance to try one of these things out you may want to give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised!

It probably doesn't take long for the market to get saturated in a small business like high-end audio equipment, although they appear to have orders coming in faster than they can produce them currently. So, you gotta keep new products coming... no money is made from those nice software upgrades (but customers are kept happy for a while).

You can do that with the AxeFx. Granted it costs more but the flexibility and effects sound much better to me than the 1101. I had one for a while and it just didn't measure up.

I love how the AxeFx is such a friggin' lightning rod. Not really.

It kills me how the Fractal Faithful have a compelling need to preach the Gospel of Axe, and the non-users get so threatened by them.

I loved my Axe. I love my amps more though.

That's just it, with both you still have -and pay for- the preamp
and with the Axe-FX, I'm betting more R&D money went into that, than in any of its other features

                                Damn me.

I have never seen such fanaticism on both sides of the modeling debate than with the Axe. At first it was it doesn't sound like a real amp, then it doesn't have that in the room feel. Blah, blah, blah.

All I know is my standard a 'complex' setup of head, cab, pedals in a 4CM. I was always fighting to get the sound I wanted. I have more capabilities and a better sound all around now. Its different than a tube amp. It might not be what you are looking for. It will 'cut' through the mix. A tube amp is not a requirement for cutting through the mix. You can make the Axe sound like crap. Its easy to do. You can also make a tube amp sound like crap. Which is also easy to do. It costs a lot more then other devices. It offers a lot more as well.
