  • RM4 - finally!

I've been eyeing these for a couple years at least, and finally went and got one along with a bunch of modules.

So far I'm really digging it. It's a nice step up from the Rocktron Piranha I was using before. And while it doesn't sound as good as my Splawn competition head, what does really? The important thing is it's massively more flexible, MIDI controllable, and provides phantom power for my MIDI footswitch! Now if only someone could put my Splawn in one of those modules, I'd be in amp heaven.

Congrats on the RM4. Get those stock modules modded and you will be collecting dust on the Splawn!

I've had a couple of Pete's (Gigmods) mods. Simply amazing work. You'll never own a stock mod again.

      But the Splawn...yes...the Splawn!

congrats! I haven't tried the work of any of the modders yet, but the clips of their work generally sounds awesome.

All my modules have been upgraded with orange drops, so I can't really comment on the stock modules either

I have a KH-1, 1086, and a Jaded Faith Ultra and I can say that there was a very big difference between the Ultra before and after it went to JF. There was also a big difference in everything before and after I put a MXR 10 band EQ in the loop. Hated the 1086 before. Love it after. Seems that every pro modder has their own good stuff. Lots of new stuff from them out too. I bet a mod to resemble your Splawn could be had from someone. Sign up on the MTS forum and look at reviews and clips. Lots of buying/selling/flipping there.

Out of interest where did you put that MXR 10 band in the loop?

In the series loop. My setup is:
Series loop send > Tuner > EQ > Gate > Return.
Parallel liip send > Chorus > Delay > Return.

Of course, the pedals at instrument level in the parallel loop work a little iffy with the line level loop but I've gotten them to work ok for now till I get a MFX unit and MIDI controller. May try a line level shifter first.

The XTC is JF moded actually. I also have an unmodded 1086, but so far I don't like it. That one may get sent off for mods.

I hated the 1086 originally. Had no low end and seemed to be severely lacking in the gain dept. for a supposed "high gain module". Then I put the EQ in the loop and everything about the amp and every module I use opened up. Now I really like it. But it's definitely a good donor for mods (1087, 1666, etc.)

from all the comments, the 1086 appears to be the best "downtuned" module
