    Found an Avatar nearby!

    http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/msg/2584570450.html

It has four Celestion G12 T 100's (Hot 100's) in it. How do you think that will match up with the Powerball? I know where there are two V30's for $100 if it needs it.

I offered him $350. Seem like a good deal on that guy?

Talking to a guy about a Mesa Recto cab as well. Everything I have read about the Avatars has been positive, but it there is always this "for the price" tag following it. Seems the smarter move is to just spend the extra $200, get a used Recto cab, and be done with it, especially if I can pull off the trade I'm cooking up on Craigslist.

Some say the recto cabs are thin, but I think that the less low end works well with the powerball.
        I like EL34s.

What Ive found about the PB so far is it really doesnt care what cab you use, it will still pound your face in with the punchy bass. I cant imagine what it would be like through a cab with an extended frequency range. My X100B was the same way. When we did the original recordings for DMW and WAWW, we had to drastically cut the bass of the X100B tracks after the fact as they were bassier than the bass tracks.

My freinds Avatar cab uses the G12K100s. I talked to him in length about it the other night, he really seems to like it. Hes into drop C and bands like KSE and various other newer metal bands in addition to the usual Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer etc..

Yeah we play in Drop C#, so we aren't too far off from that. I imagine either the Avatar or a Mesa Oversized Recto is really a step up from the XXX cab I'm using now. I'm pretty sure I'm trading my old Peavey Ultra 120 head w/footswitch, an old 80s DOD analog delay pedal that's in fair condition, and a Boss 7 band eq and a NS-2 for the Mesa cab on Sunday.

I thought the Mesa had a good amount of bass due to it being oversized?

Umm, thats an aweful lot of stuff to trade for one cab. Id maybe keep looking. If you sold it your self, you could get around $400 just for the Ultra+. I think you can do better. Theres a Mesa cab in Indy CL right now for $550. Relatively sure its not oversized, but will still be thumpy because of the V30s that are in it. A new Avatar oversize cab is around $700 after shipping. Just my opinion.

                avatarspeakers.com guitar cabs, contemporary, g412 $579 + $68 shipping for this cab with G12K100s

It's the original Ultra 120, not the +. I think I paid $250 for it used, which was a fantastic deal at the time. Good hard rock amp, just was a bit too buzzy and trebly for metal. I think there is someone selling an identical one for about $400 on Chicago Craigslist. Honestly I got the pedals as part of a ridiculous craiglist purchase where I paid $350 shipped for a Line 6 G90 rack wireless, a Boss NS2, a Boss 7 band eq, an MXR smartgate, a Rocktron hush pedal, and a Audiotech Mid boost pedal. Stupid good deal on that. I will have to think about that though, as you might be right. It's definately more of a buyer's market than a sellers market though.

BTW what did you end up doing about the faceplate on your PB, Twitch?

Chassis is $90 plus shipping from Germany. So that option is feasible, but not at the moment. I Sharpie markered it for now.

Oh, that's not too bad at all. How was their customer service?

It took a week to get my initial email replied to and they didnt even read it that carefully. They asked for further info that I included in my initial contact email. At least they followed up I guess, but Im not that impressed so far.

That's a shame, but at least they did follow up. Neither Dean nor Washburn ever emailed me back when I was trying to get some info about getting a case for my Dimebag 333 I used to have (which I traded to a guy for a 1976 Fender Deluxe Reverb, a beat to hell PS3T, and a bunch of pedals, which I then in turn traded the Deluxe Reverb for my Powerball ).

I will say though, TC Electronics and Rolls have pretty outstanding customer service. I bought a used G major that was missing one of the black plastic control dials and they sent it to me free of charge and the day after I emailed them. They also were extremely helpful about getting the proper wiring schematic when I had my custom cord made so I could use my G major to channel switch my Peavey Ultra. The AC adapter port on my Rolls Midi buddy broke, and they fixed it free of charge. They never even asked about warranty. Just had to pay the shipping. I don't even think they charged me to ship it back. Real nice guys too. I think they are a fairly small operation.

Theyve beat Krank. That company can go fuck themselves. Dont bother asking for any technical info. After 2 emails and 1 voicemail and 3 weeks later the main amp guy will just talk to you like youre a newb and dont know what youre talking about and after ten minutes listening to why you shouldnt do what youre thinking of doing because their products perfect, youll be no closer to what your were after before you called.

Randall, they rock, tell em what youre doing and theyll send you a schematic no questions asked. The guys at EMG are stand up too.

Jesus that sounds like a nightmare. I really haven't heard many positive things about their product. I thought about getting one of the new Randall cabs that are really light. They make one with the same speaker config as an Uberkab. One of the bands we play with is endorsed by them and he uses those with the module system and a Jackson Y2KV. He's got great tone.

My main cab is an old Randall G2 series cab(was meant to match the RH series heads) . It originally had 4 Celestion Seventy-80s in it. It now has two with two Super 65s in a cross pattern, it isnt bad. The frequency response of those two speakers only go down to 80hz, but theyre a nice full sounding speaker. The Seventy-80s are a smidgen mid-scooped, but not as much as a G12T75. I like their tone, just wish they could reproduce more of the lower frequency overtones. The cab its self is light, but is Birch ply, so its plenty solid and tight. Id keep the cab and just replace the speakers, but I can get the whole cab with the speakers I want already included for not much more than just buying the speakers them selves.
