Recommendations for an overdrive pedal

I have been using a Freakshow Brown Rabbit in front of my JMP, sounds great. True bypass, about $150 used. Also a Keely SD-1 works great, while maintaining the Marshall tones.

MXR GT-OD. Or the Guitar Center exclusive (paint job) "Classic Overdrive".
So far I'm digging it with my Marshall more than my SD-1 or my Keeley modded SD-1.

Exactly .. go old school with an EQ and drive the mids. Better than an overdrive pedal ... IMO

I ceratnily did that, and owned many JCM800s. Then I discovered that the 2210 were my favorite JCM800 because they basically built in a distortion box..Those became nuetured with JCM 900 series !!. Then redeemed themselves with the JMP-1/JFX-1/9200 setup. I traded my two 2210s for that set up on 96 and never looked back. To me it was a very balanced, refined version of running those two 2210 heads in stereo..and it is. I figured Marshall did their homework to get those amps to sound like that. So All I needed was a cord, and guitar ever since..I love that.

I never tweaked, or need to..I just play.

I hear lots of mixed feelings on the JCM900 amps. some people say those JVM series amps are the best marhsall yet. I have NO idea as I have never played one. I am with BillZ on this one, the marshall rack stuff is great.

I'm actually really digging the BBE Green Screamer I picked up. I've had a Metal Zone, SD1 and have tried out a friends TS9 in the past. The GS is a little more trebly than the TS9, but to my ear, it's got a little more punch and helps tighten up my sound. I'm using a 5150 combo so I'm getting plenty of gain from the amp and plenty of clear bass. When I use it as a clean boost, I really hear as my amp, with a little bit more bite (noticeable mostly in the presence of ridiculously screaming pinch harmonics) and the bottom end tightened up just a touch. I'm also running the pedal through an MXR Noise Clamp so that also helps make it sound tight, while still having a musical amount of decay.

The tech that works on my amps swears by Tube Screamers all day. When I picked up my amp this last time, I brought my Zakk OD pedal. He tried it and was blown away. He said it was way better than the TS. I've never owned a TS, but I do like the ZW OD a lot.

I don't know what colour their doing now, I picked up one of the cream ones and love it. They also come in Green and who knows what colour their gonna do next. But all it is, is a GT-OD in a GC exclusive colour and sold for less than half the price.

I think the JCM 900 gets a bad rap. I don't own one but I've played them before and regardless of how they achieve their distortion they sound good to me.

I think some pedals sound better through some amps than others. The two I mentioned, OCD and 808, differ from each other. I use the 808 for a bit more gain/boost with my Marshalls and the OCD for even more gain and saturation. I've tried the MXR ZW OD through a JCM 800 in a store some years back and thats a good combo too! What amp did you run yours through?

My pedalboard is almost complete, except for an overdrive/boost pedal. There are so many options in the market right now and don't know where to start. [I] can spend up to $150. My rig right now consist of:

Randall RM 22 with Blackface and Mr Scary modules
Port City 1x12 os cab with VGS Veteran 30 speaker
Pedalboard: TC Electronics Polytune, Keeley Compressor, TC Electronics Hall of Fame Reverb, ElectroHarmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazari
