  • Designed a Channel Switching Amp

My own design using the preamp from the "Cygnus-7".

High gain one side, tweed clean on the other.
Power tubes cathode biased (split bias).
    SS rectifier.
    HT fused.
    Passive switch between the two.
I would have thought that switching would POP, but it does fine.
    Here's an initial pic:

    Soundclip?
How about a little something...just stomping on the footswitch, wanking.
    (Really BAD wanking at that)!
I'm still hearing a high pitched noise from Soundclick.
It isn't present on the WAV or the MP3 files here on my computer.
    Annoying!

Hmm, the gain channel sounds a little fizzy/fuzzy to me. The clean isn't bad.

Nice work, sounds loose and vintage on the high gain side. What speakers/mic are you playing through on the sample?
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

        Thanks!

        It's the guitar.
LP with original style PAFs makes it sound loose and fizzy.
The Jacksons sound much tighter and more compressed.

        Speakers: Peavey 5150 4x12 Sheffields.
Mic: Audio Technica condensor into a Prosonic Audiobox USB.
If you browse through my Soundclick page you'll find better high gain sounds from the amp.

              Thank you Twitch.
The whole story, ugly details and all are at the MLP forum.
              That's where it was commissioned.

                HEY!

I need to get an outside opinion.
Beside my suck ass playing, does anyone else hear the sympathetic ringing
                sound that I hear?
Before I spend any more time on recording clips...if it's there, I need to track down the problem.
If it's not, at least I know it's "local" and I need to work on my speakers.

                http://www.soundclick.com/player/sin...=11235868&q=hi

What is driving me nutz is the local clips don't seem to have that issue.
The original .WAV, or even the .MP3.
Seems to be only after I post to Soundclick.
Do I need to change something on the upload?
                Or use a different host?

                  95% done.
The large power resistor doesn't do a whole lot...it is essentially a sag
resistor rather than using a choke.
I had to be careful there because I wanted it to benefit the clean side
but still wanted to maintain a focused tone for high gain side.

I have a lot of clips recorded for high gain and for clean.
This is a blues tone with the gains dialed back:

Its very difficult to get the true tone out of your amps because of your "limited" playing ability bro. Can't you find somebody who can really play to do sound clips for you? You are obviously a builder.

                        ^ damn.
I think this lastest clip sounded MUCH better then the first one. It is good to me, but I am not selling out areas....so wtf do I know?

Is that two separate preamps and a common power amp?

                            jg...jump off a cliff!

True I suck at playing but I'm better than that...I hate recording.
I promise I'll try to get something better down.

                            Thank you sixx.

                            Chief, yes.
Split preamps into a single phase inverter so it's a shared power section.

                              OK.
                              I'm working on it.
                              Hold on.
Actually, I appreciate your honest opinion.
If people don't speak up how can I know?

A clip might sit out there forever with no opinion and I could just assume everything is just fine, when it's not!
                              So, thanks.
