Delay time settings...

Hey guys, I need help.

Never been a real user of FX. Some wah here, some phaser there, some chorus with clean... But delays... no...

I always thought that delay time needed to be sync with the tempo of the tune, so if your pedal doesn't have a "tap" feature, you are lost in "live" situation.

Anyone here uses delay or can't live without some delay when soloing.

Do you have a general setting you could share. :think:

For general rock leads I usually use something around 500ms with a low feedback/repeat set in a parallel fashion. If possible I like to have a ducking delay as well.

I'll try to look it up tomorrow, there's actually a math formula for figuring out the exact Ms rating... Me I just go with what sounds good normally, but like many others - sometimes I'll play a little faster in a live setting vs. just chillaxin... Of coarse if your drummer is feeling a little adrealine(sp?) he might be speeding y'all up by a few BPM's anyway....

For soloing, I don't mess with tap tempo and like around 360ms to 400ms and adjust level of the repeats to taste. I only worry about matching tempo when using delay in a rhythmic sense. i.e. dotted 1/8 note style.

I haven't used my Quadraverb in a long time, but I used the delay to add a little more space to the reverb.

I tend to have a standard 350-400ms delay with ducking as well so it fades "gracefully" if that makes any sense. Tends to work with 90% of rock tunes out there.

Mind you my TC D Two delay has a 1/2 dozen delay patches that I programmed with all sorts of times and mix values.

My rule of thumb for units like Boss DD-3 etc. is to start by turning all the parameter knobs to around 10 and 11 o'clock. Basically you get about 350ms of delay and 30%-33%-35% or something feedback and level. You add or take away from there a bit based on your needs. But with that kind of setting you can do pretty much every lead or clean part no matter what the tempo of the tune is as it's very "verby" setting.

I use the analog and warp type delays of my GT-10, but always set to 400ms.

I always liked 450 and pretty much stick with it. I am not a tap tempo guy.

Yep, that's about it. Explained pretty well there. Quite often though, I'll use a different delay for the basic rhythm than I will in a solo.... I normally just go by sound, when I use effects anymore....

I like tap tempo. The green Vox Satriani Time Machine is worth every penny. Simple to use and has tap tempo. But somewhere between 350 to 450ms will do. You want just enough to give your solos that drippy feeling without muddying up the sound.

Could you share your basic preset here? Just a text preset would be enough. I'll adapt it to my GT-8

A ducking delay lowers the delay sound while you are playing. The intent is to just have the delay trail heard when you stop playing.
