Its got tons of high boost enough to split an eardrum.

I wanted to know what makes this bird tick and did some up close transistor IDing.
Got out the multimeter and some online research.
Found a few cool sites for info.....and what I found out this has a germanium transistor that is a pretty good indication why this thing has so much boost.
Most silicon transistors read 10mA and are more stable in all heat conditions.Germanium transistors act much differently and that is what makes or breaks a pedal tone wise.I tested the little grey can of magic and this one reads 550mA no wonder why it has so much boost.
One site said most germanium transistors read 100-200mA but if you are lucky enough to find an old EH pedal you hit the jackpot because they used outragously high mA germanium transistors reading 400-500+.
Holy shit huh?Lucky me.
Would love to mod this into one hell of an OD pedal.

That screaming bird reminds me of a EH Muff Fuzz I had in the early 80s..
Wish I still had that darn thing too..
I saw an as new one on ebay selling for $200?? WTF??
I note the four screws have been replaced with flat heads..
I'll find a nice used one some day, Just loved the tone it had..
I'm not paying $200 for a $20 effects box..:think:
