  • Should I trade my Bugera??????

I have the chance to trade my Bugera 6262 for a Carvin x100b From the 80s. Do you think this is a good trade?

I've never had one but from what I understand, the X100B is not a high gain monster without some work and pedals. Really not what it's designed for. So if you like the 5150-ish sounds of the 6262, you're probably not going to get it out of the Carvin.

I'm looking for a jcm800 kind of sound and my amp has a totally different voicing but I don't know if I should get the carvin or go with something like a jca100.

I'd go with the Jet City. Great amp...not just for the money either.

The original X100B's are not gain monsters at all. You will need pedals. Its got a great clean channel, great build quality and it takes pedals well but it will sound NOTHING like your Bugera

The point is I don't want it to sound like my Bugera.

The old X-100bs are kind of like a hi-watt with extra gain. Not so much a Marshall type of sound/distortion. The clean channel was killer but the drive channel needs an OD pedal to hit the "metal" territory.

In that case have at it.. it doesn't sound anything like the Bugera. Can't use one for metal or even hard rock unless you have a pedal in front of it. I am a huge fan of the old X100B's. They are great amps.

I agree 100%. Hiwatt is a great comparison. It also has a touch of Mesa Boogie Mark I or II but with about 30% less gain on tap and a little more fuzz.

From what I've read, Bugera's sound good for the price, but the build quality isn't that great. Some die right away, some take a while, but they probably won't last as long with contant use as the Carvin.

Nothing will out live a Carvin X100B. Throw a good tube screamer out in front of it and you got a real nice rig.
