My Honda CRV is badass. It goes 0-60 and could carry at least 2 Diezel 4x12 cabs and heads.

No, I mean the turbo's addition is limited by engine capacity.

Also, the more work the turbo is doing relative the engine, the more turbo lag...

I'll stand by my statement... if money didn't matter... every guitar player on the planet would own a Diezel, a Bogner, a Matchless, a Cornford, a Dumble, some super high end custom made Soldano, and a few Splawns for kicks.

I could skip on the Soldano and Splawns if I had a Diezel and a Bogner.

Just to drive the point home further... Your standard turbocharger adds about 6-8 pounds/square inch of pressure. Since standard atmospheric pressure is 101.3KPa, which, mental math permitting, is about 14.5 pounds/sq. inch, you're looking at about a 50% increase, and that's assuming perfect efficiency.

like the 1000+ hp out of Nelson Piquet's ancient 2.0ltr BMW M12? Wasn't that a 75hp engine before?

You mean the 800hp out of a 450hp engine?

Also the capacity was well over 1500CC... with a 79-psi turbocharger...

2 litres is well over 1500cc. By about 500 millilitres (or cubic centimetres)

I know wikipedia isn't the be-all, but according to this, the base 1.5 ltr (or 1500cc, if you prefer) engine from the 60s was generating 75hp.

in '83 the Brabham team was pulling 1500hp out of the 20 year old 2 ltr version. Reasoning that any kinks would have been worked out of the block over 20 years, hopefully providing better reliability than using a new one.

either way, the figures you provided (800hp out of a 450hp engine) exceed your earlier estimate of a 50% increase.

                        That's with a 6-8 psi turbo. The M12 had a 79psi turbo.

I'm the opposite, I skip the Diezel as I already have a Bogner and a Soldano Oh, and for the rest of you guys talking cars and turbos, here's one badass turbo Mustang that I have photographed many times at the drag strip. It will anihalate Hondas and Lamborghinis with equal abandon, makes no difference which, these are facts! Enjoy!

Come for a low 7-second ride inside Dan Millen's Super Street Outlaw Car!
