The 6505+ is definitely not a flabby, saggy, mushy amp like a Mesa Dual Recto to be sure. The addition of a good OD (gain down / volume up) just adds another dimension to the sound.

Actually the 6505 & 6505+ have 6 preamp gain stages, which is technically more preamp gain than the MKIII... but then you get in to the whole how "much of it is useable argument". But the addition of an OD up front has more to do with changing the voicing and slightly tightening the responsiveness of the power section as opposed to boosting the gain from the preamp section. Think of it as adding a feedback switch (more powerful resonance knob) that controls the amount of negative feedback to the power section.

Try the MXR GT-OD. It has some great overdrive tones in the same vein as the TS and it comes in groovy metallic green!

The 6505 isn't an amp that springs to mind as requiring an overdrive pedal, as has been stated it has insane amounts of gain stages. Though there are all different schools of though on this. Billy Gibbons linked an insane amount of Bionic Expandora's in series..lol http://www.uberproaudio.com/who-play...-and-equipment

Check out a noise supressor before you worry about a boost imo. Tightens it up a lot and makes your gain more usable. Only pedal i use right now is a NS-2

This is very true. Before my Orange I had a 6505. I put a Sonic Stomp in the loop and she came alive. I still run it through the loop in the Orange. That is my go to pedal.
