The Cygnus 7 is a completely different philosophy from these old school styled
amps but I am thinking that maybe that horn on the RCA Victor might go well
with the "7" design.
Would be kind of badass in a way.
No way one would expect such a cool sound from something so old looking!
I always make sure to install output options so the combo serves as a head,
as Straycat found.
Truthfully couldn't figure out if the RCA was really ugly, or not.
Something finally spoke up and said "it's cool".
Cyg the little wooden box of tone is not only unique and catches people's eyes right off. The vintage tone it lays down thru a 2X12 Marshall cab with greenbacks or a 1960A 4X12 with 75's just blows people's minds.
I can't say enough about how great it sounds.
Gobbing on to this thread with more stuff.
My son actually spotted a 50's Magnavox console loaded with (4) 6V6's and whatnot.
Cool old iron and good tubes.
Some PIO bumblebees in there also, have to see what they are.
And today, some more finds...cheap o' course.
Zenith C730 all tube tabletop AM/FM radio.
Works, sounds quite lush for a tabletop.
Kalamazoo Model 2 guitar amp.
Works, it needs the usual upgrades.
And a RARE Pearl FG-01 Flanger.
Works, and sounds really nice.
Ugly though.
What's in the bag?
Complete set of spare tubes for the radio.
Mrs. Cygnus saw the radio...I missed it completely.
Thanks straycat.
I realize I'm buying while others are selling.
Wife cajoles "we can't afford that old junk" yet even she can't pass up
a 5 dollar radio full of tubes and potential.
Odd thing is a lot of this isn't really "my style", but the past few
years of learning how to discern what is good, and what is actual
junk has grown on me.
They just don't make some of it anymore.
Some great stuff in all that rubbish!
What are you going to do to that Model 2? I have a Model 1, and my thoughts were to install a large 8 pin socket to let it use a 6V6. Mine didnt' have the original speaker. I bought a vintage CTS ceramic (square magnet), but it has harsh written all over it. So I bought an Alnico (new Jensen Blue) but haven't installed it yet.
